De fraternitatis vestræ sincera charitate bene confidimus c quod atnore beati Petri apostolorum principis hominibus nostris vestra devote solatia commodetis, præsertim dum causae qualitas ex'gat ubi etiam sponte cucurrere, et laborare magis 832 videtis. indicamus iLaqne sanctitati vestræ, nos Attgustinum servum Dci, præsentium portitorem, cujus ze!us et studium-bene nobis est cognitum, cum aliis servis Dei pro animarum illuc causa, disponente Domino, dircxisse;
Gregory to Desiderius of Vienne and Syagrius of Autun, bishops of Gaul, as to peers. We rightly trust in the sincere charity of your fraternity, that out of love for the blessed Peter, prince of the Apostles, you will devoutly grant your comfort to our men, especially when the nature of the case demands it, in a place where we see that you even run of your own accord and labour the more. We therefore make known to your Holiness that we have directed to those parts Augustine, a servant of God and the bearer of this letter, whose zeal and diligence are well known to us, together with other servants of God, for the sake of souls there, the Lord so disposing;

cujus relatione quid sibi injunctum sit, subtiliter agnoscens, fraternitas vestra ei mOllis omnibus iri quibus causa poposcerit impendat solatia, ut boni operis adjutores, sieut decet et convenit, possitis existere. Ita ergo fiaternitas vestra in hac re se devotam studeat demonstrare, ut bona quae de vobis opinione narrante didicimus, vera esse opere c omprobemus. Dilectissimum vero communem filium Candidum presbyterum, cui patrimoniolum Ecclesiæ nostræ commisimus in illis partibus constitutum, vobis per omnia commendamus.
and since from his account he carefully perceives what has been enjoined upon him, let your fraternity afford him gentle comfort in all things that the cause shall require, so that, as is fitting and proper, you may prove yourselves helpers of a good work. Let your fraternity therefore be zealous to show itself devoted in this matter, that the good opinion of you which we have learned from report we may prove by the deed to be true. Moreover, we commend to you in all things our most beloved common son, Candidus the priest, to whom we have entrusted the little patrimony of our Church situated in those parts.
