143:1
For Felix, a man of venerable life, bishop of Portus, was born and reared in the province of Sabina. He testifies that there was in that same place a certain woman consecrated to religion, who indeed had continence of the flesh, but did not avoid boldness of tongue and foolish talk. This woman then died and was buried in a church. But that same night the guardian of that church saw by a revelation that she was led before the sacred altar and cut through the middle, and one part of her was consumed by fire, while the other part remained untouched.
143:2
And when, rising in the morning, he had related this to the brethren, and wished to show the place in which she had been consumed by fire, the very burning of the flame appeared there before the altar upon the marbles, just as if that same woman had been burnt up there by bodily fire. From which thing it is openly given to understand that those whose sins have not been forgiven cannot, for the avoiding of judgment, be aided after death by sacred places.
