188:1
Gregorius Anthemio subdiacono. Et quoniam edocti sumus domum Petronii a notarii sanctae Romana: Ecclesiae, cui Deo auctore praesidemus, a Con"tantio tunc defensore irrationabiliter b titulatam, experientiae tuæ præsentis præcepti pagina demandamus ut, olnni excusatione vel dilatione omissa, deposito titulo eamdem domum praesentium latrici Theodorae relictæ antedicti Petronii sine nora restituas, ne, qno I absit, viduis inde præjudicium ortatur, uudc consolationis debent invenire solatium.
Gregory to Anthemius, subdeacon. As we ought not to lose the properties belonging to the right of the Church, so likewise we judge it uncivil to covet those of others. And since we have been informed that a house of Petronius, notary of the holy Roman Church over which by God's authority we preside, was unreasonably registered under title by Constantius, then defender, we enjoin upon your Discretion by the page of this present precept that, all excuse or delay set aside, with the title removed, you restore that same house without delay to Theodora, widow of the aforesaid Petronius, the bearer of these presents; lest—which God forbid—prejudice arise thence to widows, from whom they ought rather to find the solace of consolation.
