Gregorius a Lucillo episcopo b de Melita. Officii nostri decet valde propositum subjectis ma. gnopere suadere ut rebus debeant 606 servare fidem c in placitis; ne dum inconsiderate lucrandi rapiuntur studio, pacificam vertant conventionem in jurgium. Pervenit itaque ad nos fraternitatis tuæ d clericos, terras Africanae tenentes Ecclesiæ, quod e pensionem earumdem p ossessionum dare contem nan. Quod si verum est, et ad fraternitatis tuae hirc sunt perlata notitiam, tua in hoc desidia eorum cutpa nutrita est. Ob quam rem scriptis te praesentibus admonemus, quatenus ad persolvendam pensionem nulla mora nullaque excusatione eosdem clericos uti permittas.
額我略致美利大的主教盧奇路斯。竭力勸勉我們治下之人，要在所議定之事上守信，實甚合乎我們職分之宗旨；免得他們在被貪利之熱所輕率席捲之際，將和平的協議變成爭吵。因此有消息傳到我們這裡，說你弟兄之情的聖職人員——他們持有非洲教會的土地——竟不屑繳納這些產業的租金。若此屬實，且已呈報到你弟兄之情的知悉，那麼他們的過失乃是被你在此事上的懈怠所滋長。為此，我們藉這封信勸誡你，要令那些聖職人員在繳納租金上不得有任何拖延、任何推諉。
Gregory to Lucillus, bishop of Melita. It greatly befits the purpose of our office to urge upon our subjects that they should keep faith in matters agreed upon; lest, while they are heedlessly carried away by the zeal for gain, they turn a peaceful agreement into a quarrel. It has therefore come to us that clerics of your Fraternity, who hold lands of the African Church, scorn to pay the rent of those same possessions. And if this is true, and it has been brought to the notice of your Fraternity, their fault has been nourished by your negligence in this matter. For which reason we admonish you by these present writings, that you permit those same clerics to use no delay and no excuse in paying the rent.

Sed si tidem honestatis contemplatione servare postponunt, tua districtione compulsi, quæ rationi conveniunt cogantur implere. Mam si hujus rei ad nos denuo querela recurrerit, et de te alia.. æstimationem habere incipiemus, et in illus, ut dignum est, vindicabimus.
但若他們出於對誠信的顧念仍延遲守約，就當以你的嚴管迫使他們履行合乎理性之事。因為若就此事再有申訴傳到我們這裡，我們既要開始對你另眼相看，也要按其應得，懲治那些人。
But if, out of regard for honesty, they defer to keep faith, let them, compelled by your strictness, be forced to fulfill what accords with reason. For if a complaint about this matter should come to us again, we shall both begin to hold another estimation concerning you, and shall punish in those men, as is fitting.
