Gregorius Leoni episcopo a Fanensi. Sicut schismatici pravo studio perdurantes, abjurgandi dctestandique sunt, sic, ad sinum matris Ecclesiæ redeuntes, consolandi, et nibilominus refovendi. Quia igitur Joannes religiosus 827 præsentium lator, recepta ratione, ad unitatem sanctae Ecclesiæ ab errore Histricorum Deo miscrante conversus est; ea propter fraternitatem vestram hortari praevidimus, at eum salva ratione habere debeat in omnibus commendatum, atque suo favore protegere, Cui etiam ne p. tssit post conversionem alicui necessitati succumbere aliquid de Ecclesia illi præ. vidimus annis singul s consulendum.
額我略致法諾主教良。正如那些頑固持守敗壞熱忱的分裂者當受斥責與憎惡，照樣，那些歸回母親教會懷抱的人也當受安慰，且同樣當受愛護。既然本信的傳遞者、虔誠之人若望，領受了教誨，蒙天主憐憫，從伊斯特里亞人的謬誤中歸向聖教會的合一；因此我們預先勸勉閣下：在保守正當理由的前提下，你當凡事將他視為受託付之人，並以你的恩眷保護他。我們也為他預備了每年從教會撥給他若干供養，免得他在歸正之後陷入任何困窘。
Gregory to Leo, bishop of Fano. Just as schismatics persisting in depraved zeal are to be rebuked and detested, so those returning to the bosom of mother Church are to be consoled, and no less to be cherished. Since therefore John, a religious man, the bearer of the present letter, upon receiving instruction, has been converted from the error of the Istrians to the unity of the holy Church, God having mercy; on this account we have foreseen to exhort your Fraternity, that you ought, with due reason preserved, to hold him in all things commended, and to protect him by your favor. To him also, lest after his conversion he should be able to succumb to any necessity, we have provided that something from the Church be allotted to him each year.

Quia ergo vestræ sanctitati se summopere petiit commendari, providendum vobis pro vestra mercede est ut, sicut diximus, vestris in omnibus solatiis fulciatur.
既然他已切切懇求被託付給閣下，你就當為著自己的賞報，如我們所說的，設法使他凡事得著你安慰的扶持。
Since therefore he has earnestly begged to be commended to your Holiness, it is to be provided by you, for your own reward, that, as we have said, he may be supported by your consolations in all things.
