Gregorius Antbemio subdiacono Fuscus archiater, ardore fidei provocatus, preces effudit, dicens Opilionem diaconum a servum Dei, et Crescentium, clericos, b Venafranae 555 Ecclesiæ, oblitos timorem futuri judicii, c ministeria antefale Ecclesiæ Hebraeo cuidam, quod dici nefas est, vendidisse: id est, in argento calices duos, d coronas cum dełphinis duas, et de aliis corenis e lilios, f pal. lia majora sex, et minora septem. Et ideo mox ut praesentem jussionem experientia tua susceperit, memoratos ecclesiasticos ad se faciat indifferenter occurrere; et requisita veritate, si ita, ut suggestum est, e nstiterit, memoratum Hebræum, qui, oblitus vig oremlegum, praesumpsit.

Gregory to Anthemius, subdeacon. Fuscus the physician, provoked by the ardour of faith, poured out his entreaties, saying that Opilio the deacon, a servant of God, and Crescentius, clerics of the Church of Venafrum, forgetful of the fear of the judgement to come, had sold the sacred vessels of the aforesaid Church to a certain Hebrew—a thing unlawful to speak of—namely, two chalices of silver, two crowns with dolphins, and from other crowns some lilies, six of the larger palls and seven of the smaller. And therefore, as soon as your Discretion has received this present order, let him cause the said ecclesiastics to come before him without distinction; and, the truth being inquired into, if it stands as has been suggested, let him summon the said Hebrew, who, forgetful of the rigour of the laws, presumed

購買神聖的珍寶——就當使他被傳喚到本省的法官面前，並被責令毫不遲延地歸還上述器皿，好使那屢次提及的教會分毫不受虧損。至於上述那犯下如此大罪的執事和聖職人員，不要延遲將他們約束於補贖之中，好使他們能藉自己的眼淚洗淨這般重大而深重的過犯。
to purchase the sacred treasures—let him cause him to be summoned before the judge of the province, and be compelled without any delay to render back the aforesaid vessels, so that from them nothing may be diminished for the oft-mentioned Church. As for the above-written deacon and clerics, who committed so great a crime, do not delay to bind them to penance, so that they may be able to wash away so great and grievous a fault by their tears.
