Gregorius A Arigio episcopo Galliarum. In quanta apud nos memoria fraternitatis vestræ" sit charitas, cordis vestri secreta requirite, 1103 et ex eo quem circa nos habet amorem colligetis. Et quoniam sincera in dileciione, nec vires absentia, nec locum habet oblivio, ita sibi saepius imaginata vestræ fraternitatis præsentia mens nostra reficitur, ac si corporcis vos oculis nobis sisti cernamus, quia nec abesfe credendus est qui per dilectionis vinculum animis inhaeret. Quia ergo tanta in vobis sacerdotalis gravitatis ornamenta conspeximus, ut de vescro omnino instituto et moribus lætaremur, multa animis nostris de sollicitudine vestra promiuimus.

Gregory to Arigius, bishop of the Gauls. In how great a remembrance the charity of your fraternity is with us, seek in the secret places of your own heart, and from the love which it bears toward us you will gather it. And since in sincere love neither does absence have force nor does forgetfulness find a place, so often is our mind refreshed by the imagined presence of your fraternity, as if we saw you set before us with bodily eyes; for he is not to be thought absent who by the bond of love clings to our souls. Since, therefore, we have beheld in you such ornaments of priestly gravity that we rejoiced altogether over your discipline and character, we have promised many things to our own minds concerning your solicitude.

Unde quia sic ca quæ nei sunt agitis, sic in commissi vobis gregis custodia vigilatis, ut tamen ea quæ ex latere sunt prudenti moderamine dispensetis, latorem vobis praesentium b Candidum presbyterum commui em filium commendanuis, ut opem illi in quibus necesse fuerit pro utilitate pauperum impendatis, quatenus dum fraternitatis vestrae fuerit, sicut confidimus, c jutus auxilio, in ejus consolatione nos illvenisse sentiat.
因此，你既行那屬乎神的事，又如此看守託付給你的羊群，同時也以審慎的節制處理那些旁及的事務，我們就把這封信的持有人——長老坎迪度斯、我們共同的兒子託付給你，願你在凡為貧者利益所必需的事上幫助他；如此，當他如我們所信賴的那樣蒙你弟兄之情的幫助時，我們便會在他的慰藉中感到我們自己也得了安慰。
Wherefore, since you both do those things which are of God, and so watch over the custody of the flock committed to you that you nevertheless dispense with prudent moderation those matters which lie on the side, we commend to you the bearer of these presents, Candidus the presbyter, our common son, that you may bestow help upon him in whatever things shall be necessary for the profit of the poor; to the end that, when he shall have been aided by the help of your fraternity, as we trust, we may feel that we have found in his consolation our own.
