Sed neque hoc sileam, quod narrante viro venerabili d Venantio Lunensi episcopo Ine ante biduum contigit agnovisse. e Lucanæ namque Ecclesiæ, sibimet t propinquae, fuisse miræ virtutis virum I Frig. dianum nomine narravit episcopum: cujus hoc opinatissimum I cunctis illic habitantibus testatur memorari miraculum, quod e Auseris fluvius, qui juxta illius orbis muros influebat, sæpe inundatione facta cursus sui alveum egressus per agros diffundi cOnsueverat, ut quaeque sata et plantata reperiret everteret. Cumque boc crebro Geret, et magna ejusdem loci incolas necessitas urgeret, dato studio operis, eum per loca alia derivare conati sunt.

But neither would I be silent about this which, by the relation of the venerable man Venantius, bishop of Luna, I came to know only two days ago. For he related that in the Church of Lucca, near to his own, there had been a man of marvellous power, a bishop by the name of Frigdianus; of whom the inhabitants of that place testify that this most famous miracle is remembered: that the river Auser, which flowed beside the walls of that city, having often overflowed, was wont to depart from the channel of its own course and to spread over the fields, so that it overturned whatever crops and plantings it found. And since this happened frequently, and great necessity pressed the inhabitants of that place, giving their zeal to the work, they endeavoured to divert it through other places.

Sed quamvis diutius laboratum fuisset, a proprio alveo deflecti non potuit. Tunc vir Domini Frigdianus rastrum sibi parvulum fecit, ad alveum fliminis accessit, et solus orationi incubuit; atque cidem flumini præcipiens ut se sequeretur, per loca quæque ei visa sunt rastrum per terram traxit. Quem relicto alveo proprio 296 tota fluminis aqua secuta est, ita ut funditus locum consueti cursus desereret, et ibi sibi alveum, ubi tracto per terram rastro vir Domini signum fecerat, vindicaret, et quæque essent alimentis hominum profutura sa a vel plantata ultra non læderet.
但他們雖勞苦了許久，那河仍不能從自己的河道被引開。於是主的僕人弗里格狄亞努斯給自己做了一把小耙，走到河道邊，獨自專心祈禱；他吩咐那河跟隨他，便按他所看為好的地方，用耙沿地拖行。那河的全部水流離開自己的河道跟隨了它，以致全然離棄了它慣行之路的所在，並在主的僕人用耙沿地所劃記號之處，為自己取得了一道新河床，此後再不損害那些對供養人所需、無論是所種或所栽的一切。
But although they had laboured a long time, it could not be turned aside from its own channel. Then the man of the Lord, Frigdianus, made himself a little rake, went down to the channel of the river, and alone gave himself to prayer; and, commanding that same river to follow him, he drew the rake along the ground through whatever places seemed good to him. Forsaking its own channel, the whole water of the river followed it, so that it utterly deserted the place of its accustomed course, and claimed for itself a channel there, where the man of the Lord had made the mark with the rake drawn along the ground, and no longer harmed whatever things, sown or planted, would be of profit for the sustenance of men.
