Gregorius Barbarae et * Antoninae. Susceptis gloriae vestræ epistolis, quæ pro verbis b lacrymis loquebantur, non minor c nos, dil*ctisei na: filiæ nostræ, quam vos de patris ægritudine mœ ror afficit. Nec enim extraneam possumus reputare tristitiam, quippe quae nobis charitatis lege fit propria. Sed quia in nulla desperatione de Redemptoris nostri est niiserico; dia diffidendum, animos vestros ad consolationem patris erigite, spem vestram in omnipotentis Dei manu ponite; et in ipsius protectionc confidimus quia et ab omni vos adversitate custodit, atque tribulationem vestram exhilarat. et secundum paterna desideria propitius vos ordinari concedit.

Gregory to Barbara and Antonina. Having received the letters of your Excellency, which spoke by tears rather than by words, no less does sorrow afflict us, dearest daughters, than it does you, over your father's sickness. For we cannot reckon your sadness as foreign to us, since by the law of charity it becomes our own. But because, in no despair, one must not distrust the mercy of our Redeemer, lift up your spirits to the consolation of your father, place your hope in the hand of Almighty God; and we trust in His protection that He both guards you from all adversity, and gladdens your tribulation, and, according to your father's desires, graciously grants that you be set in order.

Si vero debitum humanæ sortis impleverit, nee tunc desperatio aliqua vos comprimat, vel quorumdam vobis verba terrorem incutiant. Nam post Deum, qui orphanorum gubernator ac protector est, Ric de dulcissima gloria vestra erimus solliciii, atque utilitati vestræ providere ut posumus adjuvante Domino festinabimus, ut nec vos injustorum homi num concussio ulla perturbet, et nos debitum quod de parentum vestrorum bonitate contraximns volis per omnia repensemus. Gratia itaque coelestis vos suo favore nutriat, sua protec tione a malis omnibus defendat, ut vitae vestræ incolumitas gaudium nostrum fiat.
但倘若他償還了人生的債（即離世），那時也不要讓任何絕望壓制你們，也不要讓某些人的話使你們心生恐懼。因為在神——祂是孤兒的治理者與保護者——之後，我們在此必為你們最甜美的尊貴之德掛心，並且靠著主的幫助，我們必盡力速速為你們的福祉籌劃，好叫不義之人的任何動搖都不能擾亂你們，並使我們在一切事上償還我們從你們父母的良善所欠下的債。所以願天上的恩典以其眷顧養育你們，以其保護護衛你們脫離一切邪惡，好叫你們生命的平安成為我們的喜樂。
But if he should fulfil the debt of human lot, let no despair then oppress you, nor let the words of certain persons strike terror into you. For after God, who is the governor and protector of orphans, we here shall be solicitous concerning your most sweet Excellency, and, the Lord helping, we shall hasten as we can to provide for your welfare, so that neither may any shaking of unjust men disturb you, and that we may repay to you in all things the debt which we have contracted from the goodness of your parents. May the heavenly grace, therefore, nourish you with its favour, and defend you by its protection from all evils, so that the safety of your life may become our joy.
