Gregorius Joanni episcopo Syracusano. Petrus;, vir clarissimus, vicedominus gloriosæ filiae nostrae Rusticianae patriciae, suis nobis epistolis questus est, asserens postquam fraternitas vestra de Romana civitate reversa est, anes cujusdam possessionis praedictae patriciae ab hominibus Ecclesiae vestrae vi esse pervasos. De qua re saepius se vobis querelam deposuisse significavit, et aliquando a ad dicendam vos causam b Martianum tabularium deputasse, quem asserit diversisdilationibus distulisse, ut nunc usque ad causae dictionem partes accedere minime potuissent.
額我略致敘拉古主教若望。至尊貴之人伯多祿，即我們榮耀的女兒、貴婦魯斯提齊亞娜的管家，在他的書信中向我們控訴，聲稱在你的弟兄之誼從羅馬城返回之後，前述貴婦某一產業的界址被你教會的人強力侵佔。他表明他已屢次在你面前提出此控訴，並曾一度你指派書記官瑪爾提亞努斯審理此案，他卻聲稱此人以種種拖延推諉，以致直到如今，雙方仍無法進到此案的申辯。
Gregory to John, bishop of Syracuse. Peter, a most distinguished man, steward of our glorious daughter Rusticiana the patrician lady, has complained to us in his letters, asserting that after your Fraternity returned from the city of Rome, the boundaries of a certain estate of the said patrician lady were forcibly seized by the men of your Church. He has signified that he has often lodged this complaint before you, and that at one time you deputed Martianus the notary to hear the case, whom he asserts to have deferred it by various delays, so that even until now the parties have been unable to come to the pleading of the case.

Et quia quanto fraterna vos charitate diligimus, tanto audire aliquid quod ad vestram pertineat invidiam contristamur, idcirco scriptis vos præsentibus adhortamur, ut, omni mora vel excusatione cessante, de finibus qui dicuntur invasi, subire homines vestros judicium cum parte altera 1123 faciatis, quatenus et i pervasionis quaestio, et si qua est proprietatis contentio finiatur. Haec igitur fraternitas vestra fieri sine dilatione provideat, ut nec vos invidia tangere, nec nos denuo exinde valeat querela pulsare.
既然我們以弟兄之愛越發愛你，就越發為聽見任何有損你名譽之事而憂傷，故藉此現有的書信勸勉你：當一切拖延與推諉止息，你要使你的人偕同對方，就那被稱為遭侵佔的界址服從裁判，好使侵佔的爭議與所有權的紛爭皆得了結。故願你的弟兄之誼設法使此事毫不遲延地辦妥，好叫怨惡不至觸及你，控訴也不能再因此事來衝擊我們。
And since, the more we love you with brotherly charity, the more we are grieved to hear anything that pertains to your odium, we therefore exhort you by this present writing that, all delay or excuse ceasing, you cause your men, together with the other party, to submit to judgment concerning the boundaries said to be invaded, so that both the question of the invasion and any dispute of ownership may be ended. Let your Fraternity therefore see that this be done without delay, so that neither odium may touch you, nor a complaint be able again on this account to assail us.
