Gregorius Paulo scholastico a Siciliæ. Quanto nos gloria vestra tristes dudum effecerat, propter quod se adversus reverendissimum fratrem et coepiscopum nostrum Leonem querelas habere aliquas perhibehal, tanto eodem fratre nostro ad nos modo veniente cur nostrum gavisum est, quia in pristinam vos concordiam, Deo propitio, ad invicem rediisse testatus est. Qui etiam inter alia bona quæ in vestris laudibus referebat adjecit omnino vos ill uttione maleficorum sollicitos 2C d strictos, sicut revera nobiles et Christianos oportuit, exstitisse.

Gregory to Paul, scholastic of Sicily. As much as your glory had a while ago made us sad, because you were reported to have certain complaints against our most reverend brother and fellow-bishop Leo, so much has our heart now rejoiced at that same brother's coming to us, because he has testified that you have, God favoring, returned to your former concord with one another. He also, among the other good things which he related in your praises, added that you had proved altogether solicitous and strict in the punishment of evildoers, as truly befitted noble and Christian men.

Unde vatde in nobis lætitia quam de votis sumpseramus excrevit, quia mum vobis per hoc placabilem redditis contra cujus inimicos zeli vestri rectitudinem Mercetis. b Praeterea gloriam vestram paterna dulcedine salutantes, hortamur ut quia satis est moribus vestris accommodum pacem diligere, reparatam inter VOl gratiam nullius lingua pertm bet, sud sic in vobis erga paternum amorem charitas ardeat, ut eam adversi flatus more flammæ non exstinguant, sed augrant. Nam et eumdem antedictum fratrem nostrum hortati sumus ut ita paternam vobis dilectionem imperdat, quatenus reciprocum gloriæ vestræ affectum e non otiose, sed velut mutuum tanquam r, nerator semper possit ex igere.
因此，我們原從心願中所得的喜樂在我們裡面大大增添，因為藉此你使自己蒙悅納於祂——你對祂的仇敵所懷之熱心的正直，正是為祂而得的。此外，我們懷著父輩的甜情向你的榮耀問安，並勸勉說：既然愛好和平甚合你的品格，就願無人的口舌攪擾你們之間所恢復的和好，反倒願愛德在你裡面向父輩之愛如此燃燒，使逆境的狂風如同對待火焰一般，不能將它撲滅，反倒使它增旺。因為我們也已勸勉我們這位上述的弟兄，要如此向你施予父輩的愛，使他總能不徒然地、而是如彼此互償般、彷彿一位放貸者，索取你榮耀的相應情誼。
Whence the gladness which we had taken from our wishes greatly increased in us, because through this you render yourself acceptable to Him against whose enemies you earn the rectitude of your zeal. Moreover, greeting your glory with fatherly sweetness, we exhort that — since it is well suited to your character to love peace — let no one's tongue disturb the grace restored among you, but let charity so burn in you toward fatherly love, that adverse blasts, after the manner of a flame, may not extinguish but increase it. For we have also exhorted the same aforesaid brother of ours that he so impart fatherly love to you, that he may always be able to exact the reciprocal affection of your glory not idly, but as a mutual thing, as it were like a moneylender.
