Gregorius Maurentio magistro miliium. Filius noster Theodosius, abbas monasterii a quod a Liberio quondam panricio in Campaniæ partibus noscitur esse constructum, a nobis precibus impetravit ut eum cum congregatione sua 988 vestrae deberemus gloriae commendare. Asserit enim se b in muroruin vigiliis ultra vires suas vehementer affligi. Petimus ergo gloriam vestram, ut, siquidem est possibilc, de eodem per vos onere relevetur.

Gregory to Maurentius, master of soldiers. Our son Theodosius, abbot of the monastery which is known to have been constructed by Liberius, once a patrician, in the regions of Campania, has obtained from us by entreaties that we should commend him with his congregation to your Glory. For he asserts that he is vehemently afflicted beyond his strength in the watches of the walls. We ask, therefore, your Glory that, if indeed it is possible, he may be relieved of that same burden through you.

Si vere ex toto ut non fiat hoc est omnino difficile, vel ita illi ex nostra commendatione ipsum levigantes pondus sollicitudinis temperetis, utdum in Dei laudibus liberior vacare voluerit, pro vobis, cujus opere tU levationem aliquam habeat factum cst, securior valeat Dominum exorare, sed et nostram sibi apud gloriam vestram sentiat epistolam profuisse.
但若要它全然不發生實在極為困難，那麼就請你出於我們的託付，減輕他的操勞之重，如此節制它，好使他既願更自在地專務讚美天主，就能更安穩地為你——藉你之力他得了些許紓解——向主祈求，並且也覺察到我們的書信在你的榮譽面前使他得了益處。
But if that it should not happen at all is altogether difficult, then so temper the weight of his solicitude by lightening it for him out of our commendation, that, while he wishes to be more freely at leisure for the praises of God, he may be able the more securely to entreat the Lord for you—by whose work some relief has been made for him—and may also perceive that our letter has profited him with your Glory.
