200:1
Gregorius Leoni episcopo in aCorsica. Pastoralis nos cura constringit Ecclesiæ sacerdotis moderamine destitutae sollicita consideratione L coacurrere. Et quoniam c Ecclesiam Saonensem ante annos plurimus, obeunte ejus pontifice, ommino destitutam agnovimus, fraternitati ture visitationis ejus operam duximus injungendam, quatenus tuis dispositionibus ejus possit utilitas d profligari.
Gregory to Leo, bishop in Corsica. Pastoral care constrains us to hasten with solicitous consideration to a Church destitute of the guidance of a priest. And since we have learned that the Church of Saona, many years ago, upon the death of its pontiff, was left entirely destitute, we have deemed it right to enjoin upon your Fraternity the task of visiting it, so that by your dispositions its welfare may be brought about. In which Church also, and in its parishes, we grant you licence to ordain deacons and presbyters. Concerning whom, however, let it be your study to scrutinize more diligently, that their persons may in no way be rejected by the sacred canons.
200:2
Sed quos fraternitas tua tanto dignos ministerio perspexerit, eorumque mores et aefus buic ordinationi concordare cognoverit, eos auctoritatis nostra: permissione ad praedictum promoveat licenter orliciuln. Cunctis igitur rebus superscriptæ Ecclesiæ ut preprium te volumus uti pontificem, usque ad secundam nostram epistolam. 563 Ita ergo in omnibus bis diligens esto ac sollicitus, ut tua dispositione utilitates ecclesiastiræ salubriter modis omnibus Deo valeant auctore disponi.
But those whom your Fraternity shall perceive to be worthy of so great a ministry, and shall recognize their morals and conduct to accord with this ordination, let him freely promote them, by the permission of our authority, to the aforesaid office. We wish you therefore to make use, as your own, of all the property of the above-written Church as its pontiff, until our second letter. Be therefore in all these matters so diligent and solicitous, that by your disposition the interests of the Church may soundly, by all means, be arranged with God as their author.
