Quidam namque ion eadem provincia, r Martyrius nomine (Martyro., 23 Jail.), devotus valde omnipatenUs Dei famulus exstitit, qui hoc de virt litis suæ testimonio signum dedit. Dum quadam die fratres illius panem subcinericium fecissent, eique obliti essent crucis signum imprimere. sicut in hac provincia crudi panes i ligno signari solent, i ut per quadras quatuor partiti videantur, idem Dei famulus adfuit, eisque referentibus signatum non fuisse cognovit. Cumque jam panis ille prunis 204 esset et cineri-. bus coopertus, dixit: Quare hunc minime signaslis? Qui hoc dicens, signum crucis digito contra prunas fecit.

For a certain man in that same province, Martyrius by name (Martyrology, 23 January), was a servant of Almighty God, very devout, who gave this token from the testimony of his power. When on a certain day his brethren had made bread baked under the ashes and had forgotten to imprint on it the sign of the cross—as in this province the uncooked loaves are wont to be marked with wood, so that they appear divided into four quarters—this same servant of God was present, and, on their reporting, learned that it had not been marked. And when that loaf was now covered with coals and ashes, he said: 'Why did you not mark this one?' And saying this, he made the sign of the cross with his finger against the coals.

Quo signante protinus immensum crepitum panis dedit, ac si ingens in ignibus olla crepuisset. Qui dum coctus postmoduln fuisset ab igne subtractus, ea cruce signatus inventus est, quam non contactus, sed fides fecit.
他劃記號時，那餅立即發出極大的爆裂聲，彷彿一口大鍋在火中爆裂了一般。後來它烤好了，從火中取出時，就發現它印有那十字，這十字不是觸摸所造，乃是信德所成的。
At his making the sign, the loaf straightway gave forth an immense cracking, as though a huge pot had burst in the fire. When afterward, having been baked, it was withdrawn from the fire, it was found marked with that cross which not touch, but faith had made.
