Gregorius Adeodatæ illustri feminae. Ut moram in dandis reliquiis, quas gloria vestra petiit, faceremus, non voluntate distulimus, sed præcedentis rei nos casus fecit ambigere. Deus autem omnipotens cordis vestri devotionem intuens, miraculorum signis admonentibus, a vestra vos intentione fraudari non pertulit. Sed ideo desiderium vestrum modica voluit dilatione differri, ut, docentihus miraculis, et amor vobis cresceret in veneratione sanctorum, et major fieret exsultatio gaudiorum. Quia ergo a in effectu postulatae rei gloriae vestræ vota completa sunt, hortamur ut cujus prædieatores colitis, ejus 1089 sollicite mandata servetis.

Gregory to Adeodata, an illustrious lady. That we made delay in giving the relics which your Glory requested, we did not postpone of our own will; rather, a mishap in a matter that preceded us caused us to hesitate. But Almighty God, beholding the devotion of your heart, and being admonished by signs of miracles, did not suffer you to be cheated of your intention. Yet He willed that your desire be deferred by a small delay for this reason: that, being taught by the miracles, both your love might grow in veneration of the saints, and the exultation of your joys might become the greater. Since, then, in the fulfilment of the thing your Glory requested your vows have been accomplished, we exhort you that you carefully keep the commandments of Him whose heralds you venerate.

Et sicut religiosa devotione terrena sanctorum honoribus loca construitis, sic quoque cum eis mansionem vobis procurare in coelestibus festinetis, quatenus et hic illos in omnibus adjutores et in futura mereamini habere vita consortes. *
正如您以虔誠的敬心在地上為敬奉聖人而建造殿宇，願您也同樣急切地為自己在天上謀求與他們共處的居所，好使您在此世凡事得他們為助佑，在來世得他們為同伴。
And just as with religious devotion you build earthly places for the honours of the saints, so also make haste to procure for yourselves a dwelling together with them in the heavens, so that both here you may deserve to have them as helpers in all things, and in the life to come as companions.
