Gregorius Petro subdiacono Campaniae. Ante aliquot dies tibi scripsimus, ut Numerium diaconum a Nucerinæ Ecclesiae interrogaie 'subtili. ter debuisses; et si nihil esset quod ei ad sacerdotii gra 'uin potuisset obsistere, buc eum consecrandum Deo auctore transmitteres. Et ideo si, facta interrogatione quam dixianus, suprascriptum ad nos diaeonum transmissurus es, clerum et populum civitatis ipsius admonere curabis. ut cum eo quanticunt;ue potuerint venire non differant, quatenus eis præsentibus, si Deo placuerit et ordinandus fuerit, ' coNsecretur.
額我略致坎帕尼亞的副執事伯多祿。前些日子我們曾寫信給你，要你細密地盤問諾切拉教會的執事努梅里烏斯；若無任何足以妨礙他晉升司鐸品級之事，你便當差他來此地，蒙天主為主宰而受祝聖。因此，若在照我們所說作了盤問之後，你要把前述的執事差來我們這裡，你當設法勸誡那城的聖職人員與民眾：凡能來的都不要遲延與他同來，好使他們在場之時，倘若天主喜悅、而他當受按立，他便得以受祝聖。
Gregory to Peter, subdeacon of Campania. Some days ago we wrote to you that you should subtly interrogate Numerius, deacon of the Church of Nocera; and that if there were nothing which could stand in the way of his attaining the grade of the priesthood, you should transmit him hither to be consecrated, God being its author. And therefore, if, the interrogation having been made which we mentioned, you are about to transmit the above-written deacon to us, you will take care to admonish the clergy and people of that same city, that as many of them as shall have been able may not delay to come with him, so that, they being present, if it shall please God and he shall be to be ordained, he may be consecrated.

Praterea quia Felix defensor puellam nomine Catellam habere dicitur, quae cum magnis lacrymis et vcbemenli desiderio habitum conversationis appetit, >ed eam præfans dominus suus converti c mini ie permittit, proinde volumus ut experientia tua præfatum d Felicem adeat, atque puellæ ejusdem animum sollicire requirat; et si ita es e cognoverit, pretiuin ejusdem puellæ suæ domino pra'beat, et huc cam in monasterio dandam cum personis gravibus, Domino auxiliante, transmittat. Ita vero hæc age, ut non per lentam 654 actionem luam pr;efatx puellue anilia detrimentum aliquod in desiderio suo suslineal.

Moreover, because Felix the defensor is said to have a girl by the name of Catella, who with great tears and vehement desire seeks the habit of the religious life, but her aforesaid master does not permit her to be converted, we therefore will that your Experience approach the aforesaid Felix, and anxiously inquire into the mind of that same girl; and if you shall have ascertained it to be so, let him pay the price of that same girl to her master, and transmit her hither to be given into a monastery, together with grave persons, the Lord aiding. But so act in these matters that the aforesaid girl's soul may not, through your slow action, sustain any detriment in her desire.
