Gregory to Secundinus, bishop of Tauromenium. We have received the writings of your fraternity, in which you indicated that our most reverend brother Marcianus, bishop of the city of Locri, had intimated to us otherwise concerning the case of the Church against the monastery of Saint Christopher, which is situated in your diocese—not indeed with intent to deceive, but because he had not been diligently instructed by his own clerics as to the nature of the truth.

And since you write that Dulcinus, his predecessor, testified nothing concerning the goods of his Church, but drew up his testament concerning his own goods, and rather concerning those which were bestowed on the aforesaid monastery by the offering of the faithful, and left six ounces to the Church and six to the same monastery by right of inheritance, it is necessary that, if you recall it to be so not from mere opinion but absolutely in truth, you allow no molestation to be inflicted upon the aforesaid monastery—especially since already in the times of Maximian, bishop of reverend memory, you together with our brother and fellow-bishop Ruffinus, by his deputation and cession,

as you testify, heard and decided this same case, so that between the parties those things which could be found were divided, and what belonged to the Church was rendered to it within. We wish therefore that both parties be silent, and that those things which were determined by your fraternity together with the aforesaid Ruffinus, formerly bishop, stand unshaken; to the end that neither the party of the Church may seem to bring the question unjustly anew, nor the monastery may seem to endure the controversy irrationally, especially after your definition.
