Fraternitatis tuae edocH sumus epistola, in perona Ocleatini de electione episcopatus 549 aliquos consensisse, quem quoniam nos non concedimus, in eju8 noa debent immorari persona. Sed habitatoribus ejusdem civitatis edicito, ut si in eadem Ecclesia dignum ad hoc opus invenerint, in ipsius cuncti electionem declinent. Alioquin præsentium tibi portitor personam, de qua ei diximus, indicabit, in cujus debeat fieri electione decretum. Vos etenim in ejusdem visitationem Ecclesiæ estote solertes atque solliciti, ut et res ejus illibatae sere ventur, et utilitates vobis disponentibus more solito peragantur.

Gregory to Severus the bishop. We have been informed by your Fraternity's letter that some have consented in the matter of the episcopal election to the person of Ocleatinus; but since we do not grant this, they ought not to linger over his person. Rather, give notice to the inhabitants of that same city that, if they find within that Church one worthy of this office, let them all incline to his election. Otherwise, the bearer of these presents will point out to you the person of whom we have spoken to him, in whose favour the decree of election ought to be made. As for you, be diligent and careful in the visitation of that same Church, so that its property may be preserved undiminished, and its affairs may be conducted in the accustomed manner under your administration.
