Gregorius Januario archicpiscopo Caralis Sardiniæ. Pastoralis regiminis necessitate compellimur ut orphanorum viduarumque causis solertius quam curis cæteris insistamus. a Insinuatum vero nobis est Catellam religiosam feminam. habentem filium hic in sancta Romana Ecclesia, cui Deo auctore praesidenius, militantem, quorumdam immissionibus vel inquietudinibus molestari. De ea re fraternitatem festram scriptis præsentibus necesse duximus adhorlandam, ut eidem praedictae feminae tuitionem ferre salva justitia non declinet, sciens quod de hujusmodi rebus et sibi Dominum faciat debitorem, et nostram circa se charitatem magis astringat.

Gregory to Januarius, archbishop of Caralis in Sardinia. We are compelled by the necessity of pastoral governance to attend more diligently to the causes of orphans and widows than to our other cares. Now it has been intimated to us that the religious woman Catella, who has her son here serving in the holy Roman Church, over which by God's authority we preside, is being molested by the intrusions and disturbances of certain persons. Concerning this matter we have judged it necessary by these present writings to exhort your Fraternity, that you do not decline to afford protection to the same aforesaid woman, saving justice; knowing that by matters of this kind you both make the Lord your debtor, and bind our charity toward yourself more closely.

Causas enim 553 prædictæ feminae sive sint, sive fuerint, vestro volutus judicio lermioari, ut ruralis illi inquietudo submoveri debeat, ei tamen a judicii justitia Dullalenus excusetur. Oro autem Dominutn qui viam vestram cursu ad se prospero dirigat, et ad regnum ventura, gloriae propitiatus ipse perducat.

For the causes of the aforesaid woman, whether they now exist or shall arise, we wish to be settled by your judgement, so that the rustic vexation may be removed from her, and yet she be in no way excused from the justice of judgement. And I pray the Lord who directs your way in a prosperous course toward Himself, and may He, being propitiated, lead you to the kingdom of the glory to come.
