539:1
Gregorius Fausto. Sicut res ecclesiasticæ competentibus personis sine aliqua sunt dilatione reddendæ, ita restituentis attendenda cautela est, ut nulla ei possit postmodum ex ipsa nasci rstitutione molestia. Et ideo, quoniam tempore quo quodam a Constantius defensor, parer gloriæ vestræ commissi sibi patrimonii Campaniæ curam gessit, ministeria Eeclesiae b Vulturnæ, qnæ crat pro peccatis clero et pontifice destituta, apud se propter injunctam sibi sollicitudinem tulisse dignoscitur, quae vos nunc reddere sine nostro consensu dubitare cognovimus;
額我略致法斯圖。正如教會的財產須毫無延遲地歸還給合宜的人,照樣,也須注意歸還者的謹慎,好使日後不致因那歸還本身而為他生出煩擾。因此,既然當你榮耀的父親、某位護衛官君士坦修在管理受託給他的甘帕尼亞產業之際,公認曾因所加於他的職責,將沃爾圖爾諾教會的聖器——該教會因罪之故失去了聖職人員與主教——收在自己身邊保管,而我們得知你如今躊躇不肯未經我們同意就歸還這些器物;
Gregory to Faustus. Just as ecclesiastical property is to be restored to the proper persons without any delay, so the caution of the one restoring must be attended to, that no annoyance may afterward arise for him from that very restitution. And therefore, since at the time when a certain Constantius, defensor, father of your glory, had charge of the patrimony of Campania entrusted to him, he is recognized to have taken into his keeping, on account of the responsibility laid upon him, the vessels of the Church of Volturnum—which was, for its sins, bereft of clergy and bishop—and which we have learned that you now hesitate to restore without our consent;
539:2
capropter bis vos hortamur epistolis ut ea Anthemio subdiacono a sub desuscepti emissione restituere sine aliqua difficultate debeatis, quatenus et res Ecclesiæ in toto apud eos qu os convenit habeantur, et gloria vestraab omni dubitatione sit libera.
為此,我們藉此函勸勉你,你當毫無困難地將它們憑一份正式簽發的收據歸還給副執事安德米,好使教會的財產既完全歸於所當屬之人手中,你的榮耀也免於一切疑慮。
on this account we exhort you by these letters that you ought without any difficulty to restore them to Anthemius the subdeacon under a receipt duly issued, so that both the property of the Church may be held in full by those to whom it belongs, and your glory may be free from all doubt.
