Gregorius Romano defensori. Luminosus presentium lator violentiam se Uloremque suam a Salustio viro clarissimo asserens sustinere, huc necessitate eadem faciente venire compulsus est. Unde quia servum sanctae Mariæ, quod est a parochiae Grumentinae, se esse asserit, necesse est ut ecclesiastica tuitione valletur. Experientia itaque tua praefato supplici ecclesiastica non desietat impertiri solatia, eumque de quo queritur admonere, quatenus se ab eorum inquietudine compescat. Si vero est quod sibi in eis rationabiliter dicat posse competerc, electorum judicio terminetur, tuaque quidquid definitum luerit exsecutione modis omnibus impleatur.

The bearer of these presents, Luminosus, asserting that he is enduring violence and plunder at the hands of Salustius, a most distinguished man, has been compelled by that same necessity to come hither. Wherefore, since he asserts that he is a servant of Saint Mary, that is, of the parish of Grumentum, it is necessary that he be defended by ecclesiastical protection. Let your Experience therefore not cease to impart ecclesiastical solace to the aforesaid suppliant, and to admonish the one of whom he complains, that he restrain himself from troubling them. But if there is anything which he can reasonably say may belong to him among these matters, let it be settled by the judgment of chosen men, and let whatever has been determined be fulfilled in every way by your execution.
