858 VERS. 25.—Omnes homine. MOM. eum, unusquisque intuetur procut. 8. Deus nonnisi procul, etiam ab electis videtur. — Oinnis homo eo ipso quo rationalis est Conditus, debet ex ratione colligere eum qui se condidit Deum essp. Quem nimirum jam videre est damnationem illius a ratiocinando conspicere. Cum vero dictum sit: Omnes homines vident eum, recte subjungitur: Unusquisque intuetur procul. Procul quippe eum intueri est non jam illum per speciem cernere, sed adhuc ex sola operum suorum admiratione, pensare. Procul illum hic etiam elecii conspiciunt, quia necdum Claritatem illius b per acumen intimae visionis apprehendunt.

第25節。——眾人都看見他，各人都從遠處觀看。神只從遠處被看見，連蒙揀選的人也是如此。——每一個人，正因他是照理性受造的，就當從理性推知那造他的乃是神。看見他，其實已是從推理中看見自己該受的定罪。既然說過眾人都看見他，經上就正確地補充說：各人都從遠處觀看。因為從遠處觀看他，還不是在他本體中看見他，而仍只是從對他作為的驚嘆去揣度他。連蒙揀選的人在此世也是從遠處觀看他，因為他們尚未憑內在異象的敏銳去領會他的榮光。

V. 25. — All men see him, each one beholds from afar. God is seen only from afar, even by the elect. — Every man, by the very fact that he is created rational, ought from reason to conclude that he who created him is God. To see him is indeed already to behold his own condemnation from reasoning. But since it was said, All men see him, it is rightly added: Each one beholds from afar. For to behold him from afar is not yet to discern him in his very species, but still to weigh him only from the admiration of his own works. Even the elect behold him from afar here, because they do not yet apprehend his brightness by the keenness of inmost vision.

tui etsi jam per amorem juxta sunt, adhuc tamen ab illo terrenae inhabitationis pondere disjunguntur; et quamvis ei bene vivendo inhaereant, a contemplationis ejus specie longe se esse suspirant. Quem nimirum reprobi etiam cum ad judicium venientem viderint, procul intuentur, quia non eum in divinitatis forma, sed in sola qua et comprehendi potuit humanitate conspiciunt, quia videlicet eorum oculos reducta tunc ad memoriam sua male gesta reverberanl, et dum ejus humanitatem vident, cujus divinitatis claritatem non vident, iniro modo ab ejus visione quem conspiciunt longe fiunt. [Vct. III.] Sed cum dicitur: Memento quod ignores opus ejus, ac deinde subjungitur: Omnes ho mine.

Even they, though already through love they are near, yet are still separated from him by the weight of their earthly habitation; and although by living well they cleave to him, they sigh that they are far from the vision of his beauty. And the reprobate too, even when they shall have seen him coming to judgment, behold him from afar, because they see him not in the form of divinity, but only in that humanity in which he could be comprehended, for indeed their evil deeds, then recalled to memory, beat back their eyes; and while they see his humanity, whose divine brightness they do not see, in a strange manner they become far from the sight of him whom they behold. But when it is said, Remember that you know not his work, and then it is added, All men see him:

Dicit ergo: Memento quod ignores opus ejus, de quo cecinerunt viri: Omnes homines vident eum, unus quitque iiituHur procul, quia eum, cujus judicia minime comprehendimus, esse per rationem videmus;

for to see him, as we have said, is to gather from reason his essence that transcends all things — it is greatly to be wondered at that we both behold him and yet know not his work. For we are not doubtful concerning his essence, and yet in his judgments we remain uncertain. What is highest is plain to us; what is least is hidden. For his works are less than himself; and we behold him working, yet in the working we are in darkness: because indeed why anything is done is uncertain, but who he is that does these uncertain things is not uncertain. He says, therefore: Remember that you know not his work, of which men have sung: All men see him, each one beholds from afar, because we see through reason that he is, whose judgments we by no means comprehend;
