25. Bona opera et doctrinæ cathedra, Ecclesiæ insignia sunt. — Mos veterum fuit ut seniores in porta consisterent, et causas inlroeuntium judicarent, qualenus tanto esset pacificus urbis populus, quanto ad banc discordes ingredi non liceret. Sed nos sacram historiam venerantes, hæc egisse beatum Job pro cultu justitiæ certum tenemus, atque ad indaganda allegoriæ mysteria ducimur. Quid ergo per civitatis portam, nisi bona quæque actio designatur, per quam anima ad conventum regni cœlestis ingreditur' Unde et Propheta ait: Qui exaltas me de portis morlis, ut annuntiem omnes laudationes tuas in portis filiæ Sion (Psal. IX, 15). Portae quippe mortis sunt actiones pravæ, quæ ad interitum trahunt.
二十五、善工與教義的座位是教會的標記。——古人的習俗是長老坐在城門口，審判進城之人的案件，好使愈是不許紛爭者進入，城中的百姓就愈能和平。但我們敬重聖史，確信蒙福的約伯行這些事乃是為著公義的培育，並且我們被引導去查究寓意的奧祕。那麼，城門所表明的是甚麼，豈不是每一善行嗎？靈魂藉此進入天國的聚集。故此先知也說：「你將我從死門提拔起來，好使我在錫安女子的城門內傳揚你一切的頌讚」（詩九14-15）。因為死門就是那牽引人至滅亡的邪惡行為。
25. Good works and the chair of doctrine are the insignia of the Church. — It was the custom of the ancients that the elders should sit in the gate and judge the causes of those entering, so that the people of the city might be so much the more peaceable, the less it was permitted for the discordant to enter. But we, venerating sacred history, hold it certain that blessed Job did these things for the cultivation of justice, and we are led to investigate the mysteries of allegory. What, then, is designated by the gate of the city, but every good action, through which the soul enters into the assembly of the heavenly kingdom? Hence also the Prophet says: 'Who liftest me up from the gates of death, that I may declare all thy praises in the gates of the daughter of Sion' (Ps. 9:14-15). For the gates of death are wicked actions, which draw to destruction.

Quia autem Sion speculatio dicilur, portas Sion, actiones bonas accipimus, per quas supernam patriam ingredimur, ut Regis nostri gloriam contemplemur. Quid vero per cathedram, nisi magisterii anctoritas designatur? Græca autein d voce platea pro latimdine ponitur. Nunc ergo sancta Ecclesia ad civitatis portam procedit, quia ut aditum coelestis regni percipiat, in sanctis se actionibus eierit. Cui in platea paratur cathedra, quia in magnæ auctoritatis latitudine sui magisterii exhibet libertatem. Quæ enim recta quae sentit publica voce praedicat, quasi in platea e cathedram sedet, cum nullum de sua praedicatione metuit, nullius pressa 'erroribus, se sub silentio abscondit.
但因為錫安被解作默觀，我們便以錫安的城門為善行，藉此我們進入屬天的家鄉，好使我們默觀我們王的榮耀。但座位所表明的是甚麼，豈不是教導的權柄嗎？希臘文「platea」（街道）一詞用來指寬闊。那麼如今，聖教會前進到城門，因為，為要領受進入天國之門，她便在聖潔的行為上操練自己。為她在街道上預備了座位，因為在大權柄的寬闊中，她彰顯她教導的自由。因為她以公開的言論傳講她所思想的正確之事，便彷彿坐在街道上的座位上，那時她對自己的傳道毫無懼怕，不被任何人的錯謬所壓，也不將自己隱藏在緘默之下。
But because Sion is interpreted as contemplation, by the gates of Sion we take good actions, through which we enter the heavenly fatherland, that we may contemplate the glory of our King. But what is designated by the chair, but the authority of teaching? Now the Greek word 'platea' [street] is put for breadth. Now, then, the holy Church proceeds to the gate of the city, because, that she may receive entrance to the heavenly kingdom, she exercises herself in holy actions. For her a chair is prepared in the street, because in the breadth of great authority she displays the freedom of her teaching. For she who preaches with public voice the right things which she thinks, as it were sits in a chair in the street, when she fears nothing concerning her preaching, and, pressed by no one's errors, hides herself not under silence.

An non in publico ad docendum præsidet, quam simul et sentiendi veritas, et docendi potestas fulcit? Sed cum ad portam procederet, et in platea catbedram sederet, quid a levibus, quidvea gravibus ageretur, adjungit dicens:
