550:1
V ers. 12. — Donec atteratur coelum, non evigilabit, nec consurget de somno suo. 12. Liquet enim quia non resurget, scilicet donec atteratur coelum, quia nisi mundi hujus finis advene- rit, humanum genus a somno mortis ad vitam non evigilabit. Non ergo quia omnino non resurgat, sed quia ante contritionem coeli, humanum genus mini- me resurgat, insinuat. Notandum quoque est cur postquam superius hominem mortuum dixit, inferius non mortuum, sed dormientem nominat, eumque de somno suo minime consurgere, donec coelum atte- ratur narrat, nisi quod patenter datur intelligi quia in comparatione ligni revirentis hominem mortuum peccatorem nominat, a vita scilicet justitiae exstin- ctum.
第十二節——直到天被磨滅，他總不醒起，也不從睡中興起。12. 因為顯然他不會復起，就是直到天被磨滅之前，因為除非這世界的末了來到，人類就不會從死亡的睡眠中醒起得生。因此他所暗示的，並非他全然不會復起，乃是在天被磨滅之前，人類斷不會復起。也當留意：為何他在上文既稱那人為已死，在下文卻不稱他為死，乃稱他為睡著的，並敘述他斷不從睡中興起，直到天被磨滅——這若非明明給人領會：在復甦之樹的比喻中，他稱有罪的人為已死，就是從公義的生命中被除滅，還是甚麼呢？
Verse 12.—Till the heaven be worn away, he shall not awake, nor rise up out of his sleep. 12. For it is clear that he shall not rise, namely till the heaven be worn away, because unless the end of this world shall have come, the human race shall not awake from the sleep of death to life. He intimates therefore not that he shall not rise at all, but that before the wearing away of heaven the human race shall by no means rise. It is also to be noted why, after he had above called the man dead, below he names him not dead, but sleeping, and relates that he shall by no means rise up out of his sleep till the heaven be worn away, except that it is plainly given to be understood that in the comparison of the reviving tree he names the sinful man dead, extinguished namely from the life of righteousness.

Ubi autem de morte carnis loquitur, non hanc mortem, sed somnum maluit vocare, spem procul dubio resurrectionis insinuans, quia sicut citius homo a somno evigilat, ita concite ad conditoris nutum a morte corporis resurgat. Vehementer enim ab infir- mis mentibus nomen mortis pertimescitur, somni autem vocabulum non timetur. Unde et Paulus f di- scipulos admonens, dicit: Nolumus autem ignorare vos, fratres, de dormientibus, ut non contristemini sicut et coeteri qui spem non habent. Si enim credimus quod Jesus mortuus est et resurrexit, ita et Deus eos qui dormierunt per Jesum adducet cum eo ( I Thess. iv, 12).

But where he speaks of the death of the flesh, he preferred to call it not this death, but sleep, doubtless intimating the hope of resurrection, because just as a man more quickly awakes from sleep, so swiftly at the Creator's beck he shall rise from the death of the body. For by infirm minds the name of death is vehemently dreaded, but the word 'sleep' is not feared. Whence also Paul, admonishing his disciples, says: But we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning them that sleep, that you be not sorrowful, even as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have slept through Jesus (1 Thess. 4:13).

Quid est quod praedicator egregius mortem Domini mortem vocat, mortem vero servorum Domini, non mortem, sed somnum nominat, nisi quia, infirma corda audientium respiciens, medicamentum praedi- cationis suae mira arte componit, et illum quem jam resurrexisse noverant, eis mortuum insinuare non dubitat; eos vero qui necdum resurrexerant, ut spem resurrectionis insinuet, non mortuos, sed dor- mientes vocat? Non enim verebatur dicere mortuum quem auditores jam resurrexisse cognoverant, et ve- rebatur dicere mortuos g quos resurgere vix crede- bant. Beatus igitur Job, quia carne mortuos ad vitam rursus evigilare non dubitat, eos dormientes potius, quam mortuos appellat. Sequitur:
這卓越的傳道者為何稱主的死為「死」，卻稱主之僕人的死不為死、乃為睡眠呢？豈非因為他顧念聽者軟弱的心，就以奇妙的技巧調配他傳道的良藥，並且毫不遲疑地將那位他們已知復活了的稱為死了；而對那些尚未復活的，為要暗示復活的指望，就稱他們不為死、乃為睡著的麼？因為他不怕稱那位聽者已知復活了的為死了，卻怕稱那些他們幾乎不信會復活的人為死了。因此有福的約伯，既不疑惑那些肉身死了的必再醒起得生，就寧稱他們為睡著的，而非死了的。經上接著說：
What is it that the excellent preacher calls the death of the Lord 'death,' but the death of the Lord's servants he names not death, but sleep, except that, regarding the infirm hearts of his hearers, he composes the medicine of his preaching with wondrous skill, and does not hesitate to intimate to them as dead Him whom they already knew to have risen again; but those who had not yet risen again, in order to intimate the hope of resurrection, he calls not dead, but sleeping? For he did not fear to call Him dead whom his hearers already knew to have risen again, and he feared to call those dead whom they scarcely believed would rise again. Blessed Job therefore, because he does not doubt that those dead in the flesh will awake again to life, calls them rather sleeping than dead. It follows:
