V ers. 23-25. — Iste moritur robustus et sanus, dives et felix, viscera ejus plena sunt adipe, et medullis ossa illius irrigantur; alius vero moritur in amaritudine animae suae absque ullis opibus. 62. Electorum et reproborum vita dispar, at mors caruis eadem. Iniqui loetitia transit ad poenam, inno- centis poena ad laetitiam. —Ista cum ita sint, b quis omnipotentis Dei secre a discutiat cur haec ita esse permittat? Sed electis et reprobis vita quidem dispar est, carnis autem in morte corruptio dispar non est. Unde subjungitur: V ers. 26 — Et tamen simul in pulvere dormient, et vermes operient eos.
第23–25節——「這一個死時強壯健全，富足歡樂，他的臟腑充滿脂油，他的骨頭被骨髓滋潤；但另一個死於靈魂的苦楚中，毫無財富。」被揀選者與被棄絕者的生命懸殊，但肉體在死亡中的朽壞卻相同。邪惡人的歡樂轉為刑罰，無辜者的刑罰轉為喜樂。——既然這些事是如此，有誰能探究全能神的奧秘，究其為何容許事情如此？然而，對被揀選者與被棄絕者而言，生命固然懸殊，但肉體在死亡中的朽壞卻並不懸殊。故此接著說：第26節——「他們卻要一同睡在塵土中，蟲子必遮蓋他們。」
Verses 23-25. — 'This one dies robust and sound, rich and happy, his bowels are full of fat, and his bones are watered with marrow; but another dies in the bitterness of his soul, without any riches at all.' The life of the elect and the reprobate is unequal, but the corruption of the flesh in death is the same. The joy of the wicked passes into punishment, the punishment of the innocent into joy. — Since these things are so, who may scrutinize the secrets of almighty God, why He permits them to be thus? But to the elect and the reprobate the life indeed is unequal, yet the corruption of the flesh in death is not unequal. Whence it is added: Verse 26. — 'And yet they shall sleep together in the dust, and worms shall cover them.'

Quid ergo mirum, si prosperitate vel a (??)Iversitate c praesentis saeculi dissimiliter ad momentum currunt, qui per corruptionem carnis ad terram sim liter re- deunt? [ Vet. XXV.] Illa est ergo solummodo vita co- gitanda, in qua cum resurrectione carnis d ad fin(??)m dissimilem pertingitur retributionis. Quae est enim iniquis salus aut robur, qui adeps et divitiae, dum to- tum hic cum celeritate relinquitur, et il ie retributi(??), quae nunquam relinqui possit, invenitur? Sicut autem hujus iniqui laetitia transit ad poenam, ita afflicti in- nocentis poena transit ad laetitiam. Nec divitiae ergo debent mentem extollere, nec inopia perturbare.
那麼，這些人既藉肉體的朽壞一同歸回塵土，若他們在今世的順境或逆境中僅片刻地以不同方式奔馳，又有何足奇？因此，唯有那另一個生命是當思念的，在那生命中，藉著肉體的復活，人得以達到報應中懸殊的結局。因為邪惡人的救恩或力量、脂油與財富算得什麼呢？既然在此世一切都迅速被撇下，而在那裡卻尋得一份永不能被撇下的報應？正如這邪惡人的歡樂轉為刑罰，受苦的無辜者的刑罰也照樣轉為喜樂。因此，財富不當使心高舉，貧乏也不當使心煩擾。
What wonder, then, if they run for a moment in dissimilar fashion through the prosperity or the adversity of the present world, who through the corruption of the flesh return alike to the earth? That life alone, therefore, is to be pondered, in which, with the resurrection of the flesh, one attains to a dissimilar end of recompense. For what is the salvation or the strength of the wicked, what the fatness and the riches, when here the whole is relinquished with swiftness, and there a recompense is found which can never be relinquished? But just as the joy of this wicked man passes into punishment, so the punishment of the afflicted innocent passes into joy. Riches, therefore, ought neither to exalt the mind, nor poverty to disturb it.
