V ers. 4. Si dormiero, dicam: c Quando sur- gam? et rursum exspectabo vesperam. 18. Dolens praesentia d spicit, exspectat futura. In nocte quippe dies quaeritur, in die vespera desi- deratur, quia nimirum dolor non permittit placere quae adsunt; cumque mentem per experimentum praesentium afficit, semper hanc quasi consolante de- siderio ad alia per exspectationem tendit. Sed quia et afflicta mens per appetitum ducitur, et tamen dolor ejus etiam seductus desideriis non finitur, recte sub- jungitur, ibid.: Replebor doloribus usque ad te- nebras. Causa autem ejusdem doloris exprimitur, cum protinus subinfertur:
第4節：「我若躺下睡覺，就說：我幾時起來呢？我又要等到黃昏。」憂傷者輕看現前之物，等待將來之事。因為在夜間切求白晝，在白晝渴慕黃昏，因為憂傷實在不容現前之物令人歡喜；當它藉對現前之物的經歷苦擾心思時，總彷彿以安慰的渴慕，藉期待引它趨向別的事物。但因為受苦的心思既被欲望所牽引，其憂傷卻縱被渴慕所誘也不止息，所以恰當地補上（同上）：「我必被憂苦充滿，直到黑暗。」而這憂傷的緣由也被道出，隨即補上：
Verse 4: If I lie down to sleep, I shall say: When shall I arise? and again I shall await the evening. Grieving, he despises present things, awaits things to come. For in the night the day is sought, in the day the evening is desired, because indeed grief does not permit that present things please; and while it afflicts the mind through the experience of present things, it always directs it, as if by a consoling desire, toward other things through expectation. But because the afflicted mind is both led on by appetite, and yet its grief is not ended even though seduced by desires, rightly is it subjoined (ibid.): I shall be filled with sorrows even unto the darkness. And the cause of the same grief is expressed, when there is straightway added:
