V ers. 13. — Si sustinuero, infernus domus mea est, et in tenebris stravi lectulum meum. 49. Ante Christum justorum animae in inferno tor- mentorum expertes tenebantur. — Priores etenim sancti et sustinere adversa poterant, et tamen, e corporibus educti, adhuc ab inferni locis liberari non poterant, quia necdum venerat qui illuc sine culpa descenderet, ut eos qui ibi tenebantur ex culpa liberaret. Tunc vero homo suum lectulum in tenebris stravit, quando lucem justitiae persuasori callido consentiendo dese- ruit.
第十三節——「我若等候，陰間便是我的家；我已在黑暗中鋪了我的床。」49. 在基督以前，義人的靈魂被存留於陰間，卻不受刑罰。——因為從前的聖徒既能忍受患難，然而一從身體被領出，卻尚不能從陰間之處得釋放，因為那位要無罪地降下那裡、好把在那裡被拘留的人從罪中釋放出來的主，尚未來到。然而人在黑暗中鋪床，乃是當他順從那狡猾的引誘者，離棄了公義之光的時候。
Verse 13.—'If I wait, hell is my house, and in darkness I have made my bed.' 49. Before Christ, the souls of the just were held in hell, free from torments.—For the former saints could both endure adversities, and yet, once led forth from their bodies, could not as yet be freed from the places of hell, because He had not yet come who should descend thither without guilt, that He might free from guilt those who were held there. But then did man make his bed in darkness, when, by consenting to the crafty persuader, he forsook the light of righteousness.

Et quia in ipsis quoque inferni locis justorum animae sine tormento tenebantur, ut et pro originali culpa adhuc illuc descenderent, et tamen ex propriis actibus supplicium non haberent, quasi in tenebris lectulum stravisse est in inferno sibi requiem praepa- rasse. Grave e(??)enim taedium electis fuit post solutio- nem carnis adhuc speciem non videre Creatoris. Quod taedium non immerito beatus Job tenebras vo- cat. Sed quia hoc ex poena infirmitatis venit, recte eamdem mox infirmitatem subdit dicens:
而因為在陰間那些地方，義人的靈魂被存留而不受刑罰，以致他們既因原罪仍降到那裡，卻又不因自己的行為受刑，那麼「彷彿在黑暗中鋪床」就是為自己在陰間預備了安息。因為對選民而言，肉身既已解脫，卻仍不得瞻仰造物主的容顏，這是沉重的困乏。約伯稱這困乏為黑暗，並非無故。但因這是出於軟弱之刑罰，他便合宜地隨即補述那同一軟弱，說：
And because in those very places of hell the souls of the just were held without torment, so that both for original guilt they still descended thither, and yet from their own deeds they had no punishment, to have made, as it were, a bed in darkness is to have prepared a rest for oneself in hell. For it was a heavy weariness for the elect, after the loosing of the flesh, still not to behold the face of the Creator. Which weariness blessed Job not undeservedly calls darkness. But because this came from the penalty of weakness, he rightly at once subjoins that same weakness, saying:
