104. Passionis Christi meditatione pasti debemus. - Ac si aperte diceretur: Ipsa quidem divinitatis contemplatione pascitur, sed quia auditores ejus divinitatis percipere arcana nequaquam possunt, cognito eruciftxi Domini cniore satiantur. Sanguinem namque lambere est passionis Dominicæ infirma venerari. Hinc est quod idem Paulus, qui, sicut paulo ante jam diximus, ad tertii coeli secreta volaverat, discipulis dicebat: Non enim judicavi me scire aliquid inter vos, nisi Christum Jesum, et hunc crucifixum. (I Cor. II. 2). Ac si aperte haec aquila diceret:
我們當以默想基督的受難為食。——彷彿明明地說：她固然被神性的默觀本身所餵養，但因她的聽眾絕不能領悟神性的奧祕，就藉著認識被釘之主的血而得飽足。因為舐血就是敬重主受難中軟弱的事。因此，這同一位保羅——正如我們稍前所說，他曾飛到第三層天的奧祕——對門徒說：「因為我曾定了主意，在你們中間不知道別的，只知道耶穌基督並祂釘十字架」（哥林多前書二章2節）。彷彿這鷹明明地說：
We ought to be fed by meditation on the Passion of Christ. — As if it were openly said: She is indeed fed by the very contemplation of the divinity, but because her hearers can by no means perceive the secrets of the divinity, they are satisfied by knowing the gore of the crucified Lord. For to lap the blood is to venerate the weak things of the Lord's Passion. Hence it is that the same Paul, who, as we said a little before, had flown to the secrets of the third heaven, said to his disciples: 'For I judged not myself to know anything among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified' (1 Corinthians 2:2). As if this eagle openly said:

Ego quidem escam meam divinitatis ejus potentiam de longe prospicio, sed vobis adhuc parvulis incarnationis ejus tantummodo lambendum sanguinem trado. Nam qui per praedicationem suam tacita divinitatis celsi:udine, infirmos auditores de solo cruore crucis edocet, quid aliud quam sanguinem pullis præbet? Quia vero uniuscujusque sancti prædicatoris anima corruptione carnis exuta ad eum mox ducitur, qui pro nobis sponte sua in mortem cecidit, et de morte surrexit, apte de hac aquila subditur:
「我確實從遠處望見我的食物，就是祂神性的大能；但對你們這仍是小子的人，我只把祂道成肉身的血交給你們舐嘗。」因為凡藉講道緘默神性的崇高，只以十字架的血教導軟弱聽眾的人——他所做的除了把血遞給雛鳥還能是什麼呢？但因每位聖潔傳道者的靈魂，一脫離肉體的敗壞，便立即被引到那位為我們甘心情願墜入死亡、又從死裡復起者那裡，所以貼切地論到這鷹接著說：
'I indeed behold from afar my food, the power of His divinity; but to you, still little ones, I give only the blood of His incarnation to be lapped.' For he who, by his preaching, passing over in silence the loftiness of the divinity, instructs weak hearers concerning the blood of the cross alone — what else does he do but offer blood to the nestlings? But because the soul of every holy preacher, stripped of the corruption of the flesh, is straightway led to Him who of His own will fell into death for us and rose from death, it is fitly subjoined of this eagle:
