68. Per Antichristum ardentius sœviet. Non com burit nili lignum, fenum, stipulam. Eju. flammam extinguunt lacrymœ. — Flamma quippe oris ejus est ipsa instigatio occullæ locutionis. Pravae enim suasionis verba ad uniuscujusque animum facit, sed flamma est quod de ejus ore egreditur, quia ardet in desideriis animus cum ejus suggestionibus instigatur. Haec quotidie suggerit, haec usque ad præsentis vitæ terminum suggerere non desisliL; sed tunc se nequius dilatat, cum i per illum damnatum hominem veniens, in hujus mundi se gloria apertius ostentat. Tunc ab ejus naribus vastior fumus procedit, quia humana corda signorum ejus admirationibus territa amplior instigatio percutit.

68. Through Antichrist he shall rage the more fiercely. He does not burn any wood, hay, or stubble; tears extinguish his flame. — For the flame of his mouth is that very prompting of his hidden speech. He fashions the words of his wicked persuasion to the mind of each one, but that which goes forth from his mouth is flame, because the soul burns with desires when it is goaded by his suggestions. These things he suggests daily; these he does not cease to suggest even to the end of the present life; but then he spreads himself more wickedly, when, coming through that condemned man, he displays himself more openly in the glory of this world. Then a vaster smoke proceeds from his nostrils, because a larger prompting strikes human hearts that have been terrified by the wonders of his signs.

Then his breath makes the coals burn violently, because the minds of the reprobate, which he has already found glowing with the love of temporal glory, he kindles by the blasts of his suggestion even to the working of cruelty's wickedness.
