C ap. xviii, V ers. 1, 2. — Respondens autem Baldad Suhites, dixit: Usque ad quem finem verba jactabis? Intellige prius, et sic loquamur. 2. Haeretici Ecclesiam superbiae et ignorantiae insi- mulant. — Omnes haeretici sanctam Ecclesiam f in quibusdam cognitis superbire putant, quaedam vero nec intelligere suspicantur. Unde Baldad Subites beatum Job quasi in superbiam astruit erupisse, quem fatetur verba jactare. Sed signat ipse quanta elatione tumuerat, qui beatum Job loqui κ quae non intelligeret putabat. Et quia omnes haeretici in aesti- matione sua a sancta Ecclesia h despici conquerun- tur, apte subjungitur:

Chapter xviii, Verses 1, 2.—'Then Baldad the Suhite answered, and said: How long wilt thou throw out words? Understand first, and so let us speak.' 2. The heretics accuse the Church of pride and ignorance.—All heretics suppose that holy Church is proud in certain things she knows, and suspect that certain things she does not even understand. Whence Baldad the Suhite alleges that blessed Job had, as it were, burst forth into pride, whom he declares to throw out words. But he himself signifies with how great haughtiness he had swelled, who supposed that blessed Job spoke what he did not understand. And because all heretics complain that in their own estimation they are despised by holy Church, it is aptly added:
