The holocaust offered continually by Christ for us. — Job ceases not all the days to offer sacrifice; because without intermission the Redeemer immolates a holocaust for us, who without ceasing shows to the Father His incarnation on our behalf. For His very incarnation is the oblation of our cleansing; and when He shows Himself man, interceding He washes away the sins of man. And by the mystery of His humanity He immolates a perpetual sacrifice, because these things also are eternal which He cleanses. 33. — Therefore, since at the very outset of the exposition we said that the Lord is thus announced by the person of blessed Job, so that we said that by him were designated the Head and the body, that is, Christ and the Church; after we have shown how our Head is believed to be designated, now let us indicate how His body, which we are, is expressed; so that, since we have heard from the history what we may marvel at, and have learned from the Head what we may believe, let us now consider from the body what we may hold fast by living. For in our own selves we ought to transform what we read; so that when the soul rouses itself through hearing, life may concur to do what it has heard.
