55. Judæi reprohati, quasi ex misericordiæ divinæ utero ejecti, licet a sanctis patriarchis orti. — Quid enim aliud in gelu vel glacie nisi frigida et perfidiæ torpore constricta accipimus corda Judaeorum ? Qui quondam per acceptionem legis, per custodiam mandatorum, per ministeria sacrifleii, per mysteria prophetile, sic intra sinum gratiae, quasi intra uterum creatoris, habebantur. Sed quia, veniente Domino, constricti frigore perfidiæ, fervorem fidei et caritatis amiserunt, a secreto gratiae sinu projecti, quasi glacies, de utero creatoris egressi sunt: Et gelu de caio quis genuit? Quid hic aliud coelum, nisi sublimis debet intelligi vita sanctorum? cui caelo dicitur:
五十五。被棄絕的猶太人，彷彿從神憐憫的胎中被逐出，雖然他們是從聖潔的先祖所生。——因為我們藉著霜或冰，所領會的除了猶太人的心之外還有什麼呢？他們冰冷，被不信的麻木所緊緊捆綁。他們從前藉著領受律法、藉著遵守誡命、藉著獻祭的職事、藉著預言的奧祕，如此被存留在恩典的懷中，彷彿在創造者的胎中。但因為主來的時候，他們被不信的寒冷所捆綁，喪失了信德與愛德的熱忱，就從恩典隱祕的懷中被逐出，如冰一般從創造者的胎中出來：「霜是誰從天上生的呢？」在此處，天不當被理解為別的，豈不正是聖徒崇高的生命嗎？對這天曾說：

The reprobate Jews, as though cast out from the womb of divine mercy, although sprung from the holy patriarchs. — For what else do we understand by the frost or the ice, but the hearts of the Jews, cold and bound fast by the numbness of unbelief? Once, through the reception of the Law, through the keeping of the commandments, through the ministries of sacrifice, through the mysteries of prophecy, they were held within the bosom of grace, as it were within the womb of the Creator. But because, when the Lord came, being bound fast by the cold of unbelief they lost the fervor of faith and charity, being cast out from the secret bosom of grace, like ice they went forth from the womb of the Creator: 'And who has begotten the frost from heaven?' What else here ought heaven to be understood as, but the sublime life of the saints? To which heaven it is said:

Attende cælum, et loquar (Deut. XXXII, 4). Non enim insensibili, sed rationabili creaturae loquebatur. De hoc caelo Dominus ait: Cælum mihi sedes est (Isai LXVI, 1). De qua sede alias scriptum est f: Anima justi seda sapientiæ est. Quia ergo sapientia est Deus, si sedes Dei caelum est, et anima justi sedes est sapientiae, caelum est utique anima justi. Coelum fuit Abrabam, caelum Isaac, caelum Jacob. Sed quia peraecptores Domini pontifices Judaeorum perfidiae torpore frigidi de illorum patrum progenie processerunt, quasi de coelo gelu exiit, qnia de sublimi prole sanctorum processit frigida plebs infidelium. Cum enim do Abraham natus est Caiphas, quid aliud nisi gelu do coelo processit?
「天哪，側耳聽，我要說話」（申三十二1）。因為祂並非向無知覺的受造物說話，而是向有理性的受造物說話。論到這天，主說：「天是我的座位」（賽六十六1）。論到這座位，別處記著說：「義人的靈魂是智慧的座席。」既然神就是智慧，若神的座位是天，而義人的靈魂是智慧的座席，那麼義人的靈魂必然就是天。亞伯拉罕是天，以撒是天，雅各是天。但因為猶太人的大祭司，就是主的逼迫者，冰冷帶著不信的麻木，從那些先祖的後裔中出來，霜便彷彿從天而出，因為不信之民的寒冷群眾，從聖徒崇高的後裔中出來。因為當該亞法從亞伯拉罕而生，這豈不正是霜從天而出嗎？
'Give ear, O heaven, and I will speak' (Deut. 32:1). For He was not speaking to an insensible creature, but to a rational one. Of this heaven the Lord says: 'Heaven is My throne' (Isa. 66:1). Of which throne it is elsewhere written: 'The soul of the righteous is the seat of wisdom.' Since therefore God is wisdom, if the seat of God is heaven, and the soul of the righteous is the seat of wisdom, then surely the soul of the righteous is heaven. Abraham was a heaven, Isaac a heaven, Jacob a heaven. But because the high priests of the Jews, the persecutors of the Lord, cold with the numbness of unbelief, came forth from the lineage of those fathers, frost as it were went forth from heaven, because a cold people of unbelievers proceeded from the sublime offspring of the saints. For when Caiaphas was born of Abraham, what else but frost proceeded from heaven?

Quod lanDen gelu idcirco Dominus genuisse se dicit, quia Judaeos, quos naturaliter ipse bonos condidit, justo jndicio per eorum malitiam frigidos a se exire permisit. Dominus enim auctor est naturae, non culpae. Genuit erro creando naturaliter quos iniquos permisit vivere tolerando patienter. Et quia ilia quondam tenera ac fidei penetrabilia corda Judaeorum, in perfidiæ postmodum obstinatione durata sunt, recte subjungitur:
但主之所以說祂生了霜，乃因猶太人——就是祂親自按本性造為善的——祂憑公義的審判，容許他們因自己的惡毒而冰冷地離開祂。因為主是本性的創造者，不是罪過的創造者。因此祂藉創造按本性生了他們，卻藉忍耐寬容而容許他們活在不義之中。又因為猶太人的那些心，從前對信德是柔軟而可穿透的，後來卻在不信的頑梗中變硬，所以恰當地接著說：
But the Lord therefore says that He begot the frost, because the Jews, whom He Himself by nature created good, He by a just judgment permitted, through their own malice, to go forth from Him cold. For the Lord is the author of nature, not of guilt. He therefore begot by creating naturally those whom He permitted to live iniquitous by patiently tolerating them. And because those hearts of the Jews, once tender and penetrable to faith, were afterward hardened in the obstinacy of unbelief, it is rightly subjoined:
