64. Ad intelligenda sublimia valet atcendere, qui carnis inceniiva castigavit. — Montes pascuae sunt altae contemplationes internae refectionis. Sancti enim viri quanto magis se exterius despiciendo dejiciunt, tanto amplius interius revelationum contemplatione pascuntur. Unde scriptum est: Ascensus in corde. ejus disposuit in convalle b lacrymarum (Psal. LXXXIII, 6, 7), quia quos exterius in fletu continet convallis huinilitatis, eos interius sublevat ascensus contemplationis. [Vet. XXIX.] Montes etiam pascuae sunt sublimes virtutes angelorum. Quae idcirco hic nos ministrando et adjuvando reficiunt, quia illic interno contemplationis rore pinguescunt.
六十四、那苦待肉體誘因的人，能上升去領悟崇高之事。—牧場的群山，就是內在滋養的崇高默觀。因為聖潔之人越藉外在自輕而降卑自己，就越在內裡飽享啟示的默觀。因此經上記著說：他心中想往錫安的大道〔他在流淚谷中安排上升之路〕（詩八四6-7）；因為那被謙卑之谷在外持守於哭泣中的人，默觀的上升便在內裡將他們高舉。〔伯三十九〕牧場的群山，也是天使崇高的德能。這些在此藉服事與幫助滋養我們，因為它們在那裡藉默觀內在的甘露而肥美。
64. He is able to ascend to the understanding of lofty things who has chastised the incentives of the flesh.—The mountains of pasture are the lofty contemplations of inward refreshment. For holy men, the more they cast themselves down by outwardly despising themselves, so much the more are they inwardly fed with the contemplation of revelations. Whence it is written: He hath disposed ascents in his heart, in the vale of tears (Ps. 83[84]:6-7); because those whom the valley of humility keeps outwardly in weeping, the ascent of contemplation inwardly lifts up. [Job 39, Vulg. 29] The mountains of pasture are also the sublime virtues of the angels. These refresh us here by ministering and helping, because there they grow fat with the inward dew of contemplation.

The mountains of pasture may further be taken as the lofty sentences of Holy Scripture, of which it is said through the Psalmist: The high mountains for the harts (Ps. 103[104]:18); because those who now know how to give the leaps of contemplation ascend the high summits of the divine sentences as it were the peaks of mountains—to which peaks, because the weak cannot attain, it is rightly there subjoined: The rock a refuge for the hedgehogs (ibid.); because, namely, it is not lofty understanding that exercises the weak, but faith in Christ alone that humbly holds them.
