84. Quia multos diuturua pax inertes reddit, sancti tentari gaudent. — Hultos enim pejus sua felicitas stravit, mult. diuturna pax inertes reddidit; eoque a illos inopinatus hostis Gravius perculit, quo longo quietis usu negligentes invenit. Unde sancti viri cum multa se proflcere virtutum prosperitate considerant, quodam dispensationis supernæ moderamine exeraeri se etiam tentationibus exsultant, It qnia tanta robustius acceptam virtutum gloriam custodiunt, quanto tentationis impulsu concussi infirmtatem suam humilius agnoscunt.
八十四。因長久的平安使許多人怠惰，所以聖徒以受試探為喜樂。——因為人自己的順境使許多人更慘地跌倒，長久的平安使許多人怠惰；那出其不意的仇敵越發沉重地擊打他們，正因為他發現他們因長久享受安逸而疏忽。故此聖潔之人，當他們察覺自己在德行的興盛上大有長進時，便照上天安排的某種節制，甚至以受試探操練為歡躍，因為他們越是受試探的衝擊震動、越發謙卑地承認自己的軟弱，就越發剛強地保守所領受的德行之榮耀。
84. Because long peace makes many slothful, the saints rejoice to be tempted. — For their own felicity has laid many low the worse, and long peace has made many slothful; and the unexpected enemy has struck those the more grievously, the more he found them negligent through long enjoyment of quiet. Whence holy men, when they consider that they are advancing much in the prosperity of virtues, by a certain governance of the supernal dispensation exult even to be exercised by temptations, because they guard the more robustly the glory of virtues they have received, the more, shaken by the assault of temptation, they more humbly acknowledge their own infirmity.

Equus ergo, audita buc* eina, vah dicit, quia Tidelicet praliator Dei, eum vim tentationis incumbere conspicit, utilitatem supernae dispensationis considerans, ex ipsa validius adversitate confidit. Cujus adversitatis certamin idcireo illum non superant, quia nunquam improvisa tentant. Longe quippe prænotat ex unaquaquo re f eujus vitii pugna sueerescat. Unde et sequitur:
所以這駿馬聽見號角便說：「呵哈！」因為神的勇士確實當察覺試探的力量壓在自己身上時，便思量上天安排的益處，反從那逆境更堅強地信靠。那逆境的爭戰所以不能勝過他，是因為這些爭戰從不趁他不備而試探他。因為他從遠處就從每一件事上預先看出哪種惡習的爭戰將要生起。故此接著說：
Therefore the steed, having heard the trumpet, says: Aha! because indeed the warrior of God, when he perceives the force of temptation pressing upon him, considering the usefulness of the supernal dispensation, trusts the more strongly from that very adversity. The contests of that adversity therefore do not overcome him, because they never tempt him unforeseen. For from afar he takes prior note out of each single matter of what vice's battle may spring up. Whence it also follows:
