IBID. — Tonabit voce magnitudinis suæ. 40. Vox Dei torpentem peccatorem excitans, toni trui similis.- Voce enim magnitudinis suae Deus tonat, cum se nobis bene jant per lamenta praeparatis quam sit magnas in supernis insinuate Quasi enim de cælo lonitrusprocedit cum noa incuria negligentiaque torpentes c respectus gratias pavore subito percutit, atque in terra positi sonum de superioribus audimos, quia ter. rena cogitantes superni terroris sententiam repente pertimesciMus, et mens beae jam de summis sollicita trepidat, quæ prius in infimis male secura torpebat. d Sed istius visitationis occultae quibus modis se nobis insinuet terror ignoratur;
同節。——「他必以他威嚴的聲音打雷。」40. 神喚醒麻木罪人的聲音，好像雷聲。——因為神以他威嚴的聲音打雷，乃是當他向我們這些如今已藉哀哭而預備妥當的人，注入他在超上之事中何等偉大時。因為那恩典的眷顧以突然的懼怕擊打我們這些因疏忽怠惰而麻木的人時，彷彿有雷從天上發出；我們既立於地上，便聽見從上界來的響聲，因為我們正思念屬地之事，就忽然懼怕那超上恐懼的判決，那先前躺臥在至卑之事中、惡意地安逸麻木的心，如今為至高之事殷勤警醒而戰兢。但那隱密眷臨的恐懼以何等方式注入我們，卻無人知曉；
The same place. — 'He shall thunder with the voice of his greatness.' 40. The voice of God arousing the torpid sinner is like the sound of thunder. — For God thunders with the voice of his greatness, when to us now well prepared through lamentations he instills how great he is in supernal things. For as though thunder proceeds from heaven when the regard of grace strikes us, who are torpid with carelessness and negligence, with sudden dread, and, set upon the earth, we hear a sound from the higher regions, because, thinking earthly things, we suddenly dread the sentence of supernal terror, and the mind, now well solicitous concerning the highest things, trembles, which before lay torpid, evilly secure in the lowest things. But by what means the terror of that hidden visitation instills itself into us is unknown;
