V ers. 21, 22. — Acquiesce igitur ei, et habeto pa- cem, et per haec habebis fructus optimos. Suscipe ex ore illius legem, et pone sermones ejus in corde suo. 20. Haereticorum superbia et praesumptio. — Culpa superbiae est docere f meliorem, quam saepe haeretici perpetrant, qui de his quae prave sentiunt quasi do- cere catholicos praesumunt. Tunc enim eos putant Deo acquiescere, si illos contigerit eorum perversi- tatibus consentire. Et acquiescentibus pacem pro- mittunt, quia contra cos qui sibi consentiunt jam jur- gari desistunt. Fructus autem optimos sibi consen- tientibus pollicentur, quia eos solos bona opera age- re existimant, quos ad sua dogmata se trahere exsul- tant.
第二十一、二十二節。——所以你要順從祂，與祂和好，藉此你必得最好的果子。你當領受祂口中的律法，將祂的言語存記在心。異端者的驕傲與擅專。——教導比自己更好的人乃是驕傲的過犯——這正是異端者常犯的事，他們竟擅自去教導公教信徒他們自己所錯謬持守的事。因為他們以為：人若碰巧同意他們自己的乖謬，就算是順從神了。並且他們向那些順從的人應許平安，因為他們終於不再與那順從他們的人爭吵。他們又向那些贊同他們的人應許最好的果子，因為他們認定：惟有那些他們歡然拉入自己教條的人，才是行善事的人。
Verses 21, 22. — Acquiesce therefore to him, and have peace, and by these things thou shalt have the best fruits. Receive the law from his mouth, and lay up his words in thy heart. The pride and presumption of heretics. — It is a fault of pride to teach one who is better — a thing which heretics often commit, who presume, as it were, to teach Catholics concerning the things they wrongly hold. For they then think that men acquiesce to God, if they happen to consent to their own perversities. And to those who acquiesce they promise peace, because they cease at last to wrangle against those who consent to them. And they promise the best fruits to those who agree with them, because they reckon those alone to do good works whom they exult to draw over to their own dogmas.

Unde quasi sub quadam specie dulcedinis infun- dunt virus pestiferae persuasionis, ut verba Dei Ec- clesiam in corde suo ponere admoneant. Quae si un- quam a corde illius recessissent, ab illis talia nulla- tenus audiret. Sequitur:

To these also this fits, which he adds: Receive the law from his mouth. Because they suspect that the things they themselves hold proceed from the mouth of God: And lay up his words in thy heart. As if he plainly asserted, saying: The words which up to now thou hast held on thy lips and not in thy heart. For because he rejects their perverse dogmas, they charge that he has held the words of God not in his understanding, but only in outward show. Hence, as if under a certain guise of sweetness, they pour in the venom of a pestilential persuasion, so that they may admonish the Church to lay up the words of God in her heart. But if these had ever departed from her heart, she would by no means hear such things from them. There follows:
