V ers. 3. Quare reputati sumus ut jumenta, et sorduimus coram te? 3. Haereticorum in Ecclesiam suspiciones et contu- meliae. — Humanae mentis est proprium hoc sibi fieri suspicari quod facit. Arbitrantur enim se despici, qui bonorum mores despicere consueverunt. Et quia in his quae comprehendi valent ratione contra haere- ticos ostendit Ecclesia rationabile non esse quod astruant, aestimari se ab ejus judicio velut jumenta suspicantur. a Ex qua despectus sui suspicione pro- tinus ad dedignationem prosiliunt, atque ad ejus- dem Ecclesiae contumelias excitantur. Unde sub- ditur:
第三節。我們為何被算作牲畜，在你面前成為卑賤的呢？三、異端者對教會的猜疑與辱罵。——人心的特性，就是猜疑別人對自己所做的，正是自己所行的。因為那些慣於藐視善人品行的人，便以為自己受人藐視。又因教會在那些能憑理性理解的事上，向異端者指出他們所主張的並不合理，他們便猜疑自己在教會的判斷中，被看作牲畜一般。由這種被藐視的猜疑，他們立刻躍入輕蔑，並被激動起來辱罵那同一教會。故此下文接著說：
Verse 3. Why are we counted as beasts of burden, and become vile before you? 3. The suspicions and insults of heretics against the Church. — It is proper to the human mind to suspect that the very thing is being done to it which it does itself. For those who are accustomed to despise the ways of good men imagine that they themselves are despised. And because, in matters that can be grasped by reason, the Church shows against the heretics that what they assert is not reasonable, they suspect that they are esteemed by her judgment as though they were beasts of burden. From this suspicion of being despised they leap at once into disdain, and are stirred up to insults against that same Church. Whence it is added:
