V ers. 11. — Undique terrebunt eum formidines. 16. Peccator pravis desideriis ad malam actionem tractus timore irretitur. — Tales enim contra se om- nes esse suspicatur, qualis ipse esse contra omnes nititur. Quae nimirum formidines quid in ejus actione faciant, subinfertur cum dicitur: I bid.— Et involvent pedes ejus. [ Vet. VII.] Pedes quippe si involuti fuerint, gres- sus liberos habere non possunt, et nullum carpere iter valent, quia sua eos involumenta retinent. Prava itaque desideria ad pessimam actionem trahunt, sed pessima actio restringit in formidine. b Quae videli- cet formido involvit pedes, ne in rectam exire va- leant actionem.
第十一節。——四圍的驚恐必使他懼怕。十六、罪人被邪慾牽引去行惡，反被恐懼所纏。——因為這樣的人猜疑眾人都與自己為敵，正如他自己極力與眾人為敵。這些驚恐在他的行動中究竟造成何等後果，經文接著補充說：同節。——並纏住他的腳。因為腳若被纏住，就不能有自由的腳步，也不能走任何道路，因為它們自己的纏繞攔阻它們。所以邪慾牽引人去行極惡的事，但極惡的行動又把人束縛在恐懼中。這恐懼實在纏住雙腳，使它們不能踏入正當的行動。
Verse 11. — Terrors shall frighten him on every side. 16. The sinner, drawn by depraved desires to evil action, is ensnared by fear. — For such a man suspects all to be against himself, such as he himself strives to be against all. What indeed these terrors effect in his action is subjoined when it is said: Same verse. — And shall entangle his feet. For feet, if they be entangled, cannot have free steps, nor can they take any road, because their own entanglements hold them back. Depraved desires, therefore, draw to most wicked action, but most wicked action constrains in fear. Which fear, forsooth, entangles the feet, so that they cannot go forth into right action.

Et saepe contingit ut idcirco quisque bonus esse metuat, ne hoc a pravis ipse patiatur quod se bonis fecisse reminiscitur; dumque hoc pati quod fecit metuit, undique territus, undique suspe- ctus, quasi pedes involutos habet, qui timore irreti- tur, nil libere agere praevalet, quia in bono opere quasi inde gressum perdidit, unde ad mala 442 quae concupierat excessit. Sequitur:
並且常有這樣的事：有人因此懼怕行善，惟恐自己在惡人手中遭受他所記得自己曾加於善人的事；當他懼怕遭受他所曾行的，便四圍驚恐、四圍疑懼，彷彿雙腳被纏，即那被恐懼所纏的人，一無所能自由而行，因為他在善工上，彷彿正是從那使他轉向他所貪求之惡的源頭，喪失了自己的腳步。接著說：
And it often happens that someone therefore fears to be good, lest he himself should suffer at the hands of the wicked that which he remembers he has done to the good; and while he fears to suffer what he has done, terrified on every side, suspected on every side, he as it were has entangled feet, who is ensnared by fear, and prevails to do nothing freely, because in good work he has as it were lost his step from that source whence he passed over to the evils which he had craved.
