125:1
I bid. 61. Christus exemplo docuit Deo in flagellis bene- dicere.

Ibid. — The Lord gave, the Lord hath taken away: as it hath pleased the Lord, so is it done: blessed be the name of the Lord. 60. God gave Judaea to Christ and took it away. — Our Redeemer, in that He is God, gives all things with the Father; but in that He is man, receives among all things from the Father. Let Him therefore say of Judaea, when it believed the mystery of His incarnation was to come: The Lord gave; let Him say of Judaea, when it had despised the awaited presence of His incarnation: The Lord hath taken away. For it was given, when through some it believed things to come; but by the exacting merit of its blindness it was taken away, when through some it despised to venerate what it had believed. 61. Christ by His example taught men to bless God amid scourges.
125:2
— But let Him teach those who believe in Him, that, when set amid scourges, they may know how to bless the Lord, when it is added: As it hath pleased the Lord, so is it done; blessed be the name of the Lord. Whence also, as the Gospel testifies (Matt. 26:26), when He is said to draw near to the Passion, having taken bread He is related to have given thanks. He therefore gives thanks who receives the scourges of another's iniquity. And He who displayed nothing worthy of a stroke, humbly blesses in the stroke; that hence, namely, He may show what each one ought to do amid the scourge of his own fault, if He Himself with equanimity bears the scourges of another's fault; that hence He may show what the subject should do under correction, if, set amid the scourge, the equal gives thanks to the Father. There follows:
