715:1

V ers. 12.— Cum enim dulce fuerit in ore ejus ma- lum a abscondet illud sub lingua sua. 13. Hypocritae est sermonibus dulcia praetendere, cogitationibus perversa moliri. —In ore hypocritae malum dulce est, quia ei est iniquitas suavis in mente. Os quippe cordis cogitatio est, de qua scri- ptum est: Labia dolosa in corde, b et corde locuta sunt mala ( Psal. xi, 3). Sed hoc malum, quod in ore hypocritae dulce est, sub lingua ejus absconditur, quia asperitas malitiae quae latet in mente, sub teg- mine blandae locutionis operitur. Malum namque in lingua, et non sub lingua esset, si loquens hypocrita malitiam suae pravitatis aperiret.

第十二節。——「當惡在他口中甘甜時，他必把它藏在舌下。」——偽善者的特點是在言語中呈現甘甜，在思念中謀劃悖謬。——在偽善者口中，惡是甘甜的，因為邪惡在他心中是可口的。因為心的口就是思念，論到這思念，經上記著說：「詭詐的嘴唇在心中，他們心懷惡念說話」（詩篇十一3）。但這在偽善者口中甘甜的惡，卻藏在他舌下，因為潛伏在心中的惡毒的粗暴，被諂媚言語的帷幕所遮蓋。因為這惡本會在舌上，而非舌下，倘若偽善者在說話時，把自己敗壞的惡毒顯露出來。

Verse 12. — 'For when the evil shall be sweet in his mouth, he will hide it under his tongue.' — It belongs to the hypocrite to hold out sweet things in his words, and to contrive perverse things in his thoughts. — In the mouth of the hypocrite evil is sweet, because iniquity is pleasant to him in his mind. For the mouth of the heart is thought, of which it is written: 'Deceitful lips are in the heart, and with a heart they have spoken evil things' (Psalm xi. 3). But this evil, which is sweet in the mouth of the hypocrite, is hidden under his tongue, because the harshness of the malice which lurks in the mind is covered under the veil of flattering speech. For the evil would be in the tongue, and not under the tongue, if the hypocrite in speaking were to lay open the malice of his depravity.

Sed sicut plerique justorum, cum quosdam agere perverse con piciunt, qui duris sunt increpationibus feriendi, in lingua a peritatem sumunt, sed sub lingua mentis suae be- nignitatem contegunt. Unde et sanctae Ecclesiae sponsi voce dicitur: Met et lac sub lingua tua ( Cunt. iv, 11). Qui enim mentis suae dulcedinem aperire infir- mis nolunt, sed loquentes quadam (??)os asperitate fe- riunt, el tamen inter verba aspera quasi latenter c quiddam dulcedinis intermittunt, hi videlicet non in lingua, sed sub lingua habent dulcedinem, quia inter dura quae proferunt emittunt quaedam blanda et dul- cia, quibus contristati mens possit ex benignitate refoveri.

But just as very many of the righteous, when they perceive certain persons acting perversely who ought to be struck with harsh rebukes, take up harshness in the tongue, yet cover the benignity of their mind under the tongue. Whence also by the voice of the Spouse of holy Church it is said: 'Honey and milk are under thy tongue' (Canticles iv. 11). For those who are unwilling to lay open the sweetness of their mind to the weak, but strike them in speaking with a certain harshness, and yet amid harsh words as it were secretly interpose something of sweetness — these, plainly, have sweetness not in the tongue but under the tongue, because amid the hard things which they utter they let forth certain gentle and sweet things, by which the mind of the saddened may be refreshed out of benignity.

715:3

Ita perversi quique, d quia malum non in lin- gua, sed sub lingua habent, sermonibus dulcia prae- tendunt, et cogitationibus perversa moliuntur. Hinc est enim quod Joab Amasae mentum dextera tenuit, sed sinistram ad gladium latenter mittens, ejus viscera effud(??)t ( II Reg. xx, 9). Dextera quippe mentum te- nere est quasi ex benignitate blandiri. Sed sinistram ad gladium mittit, qui latenter ex malitia percutit. Hinc de ipso quoque eorum capite scriptum est: Sub lingua ejus labor et dolor ( Psal. x, 7). Qui enim non aperte mala quae cogitat ostendit, laborem ac dolo- rem eorum quorum mortem appetit, non in lingua exerit, sed sub lingua premit. Bene autem de hoc hy- pocrita subditur:

所以，凡悖謬之人，因他把惡不置於舌上而置於舌下，便在言語中呈現甘甜，在思念中謀劃悖謬。因為正因如此，約押用右手抓住亞瑪撒的鬍子，卻暗暗伸左手拔刀，使他的腸子流出（撒母耳記下二十9）。因為用右手抓住鬍子，彷彿是出於慈愛而親熱；但暗暗出於惡毒而擊打的人，卻伸左手取刀。故此，論到他們的元首本身，也記著說：「他舌下是毒害奸惡」（詩篇十7）。因為那不公開顯露自己所思之惡的人，並不在舌上顯出他所渴望使之死亡之人的毒害奸惡，卻把它壓在舌下。而論到這偽善者，經上又恰當地補充說：

So every perverse person, because he has the evil not in the tongue but under the tongue, holds out sweet things in his words and contrives perverse things in his thoughts. For hence it is that Joab held Amasa's chin with his right hand, but secretly sending his left hand to his sword, poured out his bowels (2 Kings [2 Samuel] xx. 9). For to hold the chin with the right hand is as it were to flatter out of benignity. But he sends his left hand to the sword who secretly strikes out of malice. Hence too of their very head it is written: 'Under his tongue is toil and sorrow' (Psalm x. 7). For he who does not openly show the evils that he thinks does not thrust forth in the tongue the toil and sorrow of those whose death he desires, but presses it under the tongue. And well is it added of this hypocrite:
