I bid.— Involvatur amaritudine. 33. Salubris moeror de prava delectatione.—Dies enim amaritudine involvitur, cum ad cognitionem mente redeunte, peccati blandimenta 118 cruciatus poenitentiae sequuntur. Diem amaritudine involvimus, cum pravae delectationis gaudium, quae supplicia se- quantur aspicimus, et asperis hoc fletibus circumda- mus. Quia enim hoc quod involvitur, ex latere om- nis partis operitur, involvi dies amaritudine optatur, quatenus quae mala incorrectis imminent, ex om- ni parte quisque conspiciat, et voluptatis suae lasci- viam tristitiae lamentis tergat.

Same verse.— Let it be wrapped in bitterness. 33. Salutary grief over depraved delight.— For the day is wrapped in bitterness when, with the mind returning to knowledge, the torments of penance follow the allurements of sin. We wrap the day in bitterness when we look upon what punishments follow the joy of depraved delight, and surround it with bitter weeping. For since that which is wrapped up is covered on every side from every part, the day is desired to be wrapped in bitterness, so that each one may behold on every part what evils threaten the uncorrected, and may wipe away the wantonness of his own pleasure with the laments of sorrow.

34.— Quanto major esse debeat de consensu ad cul- pam.-Sed si diem, quam peccati delectationem diximus, tot impeti precibus audivimus, ut videlicet circumdantes fletus expient quidquid delectatus per negligentiam animus delinquit, quanta animadver- sione poenitentiae hujus diei nox ferienda est, videli- cet jam consensus ad culpam? Sicut enim mino- ris culpae est, cum carnaliter mens in delectatione rapitur, sed tamen delectationi suae per spiri- tum reluctatur; ita gravioris et plenae est nequitiae, ad peccati illecebram non solum delectatione pertrahi, sed etiam consensu famulari.
三十四、對過犯的同意當有何等更大的憂傷。——但我們既聽見那被我們稱為罪之歡愉的日子，受到如此眾多祈求的攻擊，好叫那環繞的眼淚可以贖清心思因疏忽而歡喜所犯的一切，那麼這日的黑夜——就是如今對過犯的同意——當受何等大的悔改懲責呢？因為正如當心思在歡愉中被肉體擄去、卻仍藉著靈抵抗其歡愉時，這是較輕的過犯；照樣，不僅被歡愉拉向罪的引誘、甚至藉著同意去服事它，這乃是更重的、完全的邪惡。
34.— How much greater ought the grief to be over consent to fault.— But if we have heard the day, which we called the delight of sin, assailed with so many prayers, so that, namely, the surrounding tears may expiate whatever the mind, delighted through negligence, transgresses, with how great an animadversion of penance is the night of this day to be struck—namely, now the consent to fault? For just as it is of lesser fault when the mind is carnally carried off in delight, but yet struggles against its delight through the spirit, so it is of graver and full wickedness not only to be drawn to the enticement of sin by delight, but even to serve it by consent.
