V ers. 15. Qui a si habuero quidpiam justum, non respondebo, sed meum judicem deprecabor. 28. Justitia nostra eget veniae deprecatione. Ut enim saepe diximus, omnis humana justitia injustitia esse convincitur, si districte judicetur. Prece ergo post justitiam indiget, ut quae succumbere discussa poterat, ex sola judicis pietate convalescat. Quae cum plene a perfectioribus habetur, haberi de illa quid- piam dicitur, quia mens humana et comprehensa vix peragit, et valde extrema sunt quae comprehendit. Dicat ergo: Qui si habuero quidpiam justum, non res- pondebo, sed meum judicem deprecabor. Velut si aper- tius fateatur, dicens:
第十五節。我雖有義，也不回答祂，只要向那審判我的懇求。第二十八節。我們的義需要祈求赦免。因為正如我們屢次所說，一切人的義若嚴格審判，都被斷定為不義。所以義之後仍需禱告，好使那被察究時本要仆倒的，能單憑審判者的憐憫得以站立。這義既由那些更完全的人所充分擁有，說「擁有其中的一點」，是因為人的心思連它所領會的也勉強行出，而它所領會的又是極其細微的邊際之事。所以他這樣說：我雖有義，也不回答祂，只要向那審判我的懇求。彷彿他更明白地承認說：
Verse 15. Who, even if I have anything just, will not answer, but will beseech my judge. 28. Our righteousness needs the entreaty of pardon. For as we have often said, all human righteousness is convicted of being unrighteousness, if it be strictly judged. It needs prayer, therefore, after righteousness, so that what could have fallen when sifted may prevail from the sole mercy of the judge. And when this is fully possessed by the more perfect, it is said that something of it is possessed, because the human mind both barely accomplishes even what it has comprehended, and the things which it comprehends are very slight extremes. Let him say therefore: Who, even if I have anything just, will not answer, but will beseech my judge. As if he more openly confessed, saying:

我縱然長進到德行的工夫，我得生命也不是憑功勞，乃是憑赦免。所以當我們行事正直時，必須投靠禱告，好使我們所有正義的生活都以謙卑調味。但我們這祈求本身往往被那麼多的試探所搖撼，以致它在審判者眼前彷彿幾乎被斥退。慈憐的造物主固然常常接納它；但因它不能照它所願的毫無虧損地呈上自己，便為自己懼怕那定罪的審判。故此接著說：
Even if I have grown up to the work of virtue, I prevail unto life not by merits, but from pardon. Recourse must therefore be had to prayer when we act rightly, so that all that we live justly we may season with humility. But very often this our very entreaty is shaken by so many temptations that it seems almost repulsed in the sight of the judge. And often the merciful Creator receives it; but because it is not able to put itself forth unimpaired as it wills, it dreads over itself the judgment of reprobation. Whence also it is subjoined:
