C ap. v. V ers. 1. Voca ergo si est qui tibi re- spondeat. 76. Vocare Deum quid sit, quid Dei respondere. Omnipotens enim Deus saepe ejus precem 175 in per- turbatione deserit, qui praecepta illus in traquilli- tate contemnit. Unde scriptum est: Qui avertit aurem suam ne audiat legem, oratio ejus erit exsecrabilis ( Prov. xxviii, 9). Vocare autem nostrum, est humili Deum prece deposcere; respondere vero dei, est effectum precibus praebere. Ait ergo: Voca si est qui tibi re- spondeat. Ac si aperte dicat: Quantumlibet afflictus clames, Deum respondentem non habes, quia vox in tribulatione non invenit, quem mens in tranquillitate contempsit. Ubi adhuc deridendo subjungit:
第五章第一節。你且呼求，看有沒有應答你的。七十六、呼求神是甚麼意思，神的應答又是甚麼。全能的神往往在人擾亂之中撇棄他的祈求，若這人在平安之時藐視祂的訓誡。因此經上記著說：轉耳不聽律法的，他的祈禱也為可憎（箴言二十八9）。我們的呼求，就是以謙卑的禱告懇求神；神的應答，就是使我們的禱告生出效果。所以他說：你且呼求，看有沒有應答你的。彷彿明明地說：無論你何等受苦而呼喊，你都沒有應答你的神，因為那心思在平安中所藐視的，聲音在患難中便尋不著。他在此仍舊嘲弄地接著說：
Chapter 5, verse 1. Call now, if there be any that will answer thee. 76. What it is to call upon God, and what it is for God to answer. Almighty God often forsakes in his disturbance the prayer of him who scorns His precepts in tranquility. Whence it is written: He that turneth away his ear from hearing the law, his prayer shall be an abomination (Prov. 28:9). Now our calling is to entreat God with humble prayer; but God's answering is to grant effect to our prayers. He says therefore: Call, if there be any that will answer thee. As if he plainly said: However afflicted you may cry out, you have no God who answers, because the voice does not find in tribulation Him whom the mind despised in tranquility. Where, still deriding, he subjoins:
