525:1
V ers. 15, 16. — Verumtamen vias meas in con- spectu ejus arguam, et ipse erit salvator meus. 48. Culpis suis nescit parcere, ut Deus parcat. — Cum Paulus apostolus dicat: Si nosmetipsos dijudica- remus, non utique judicaremur ( I Cor. xi, 31 ), eo tunc Dominus salvator invenitur, quo nunc pro ti- more Dei peccatum nostrum a nobismetipsis redar- guitur. Unde electi quique culpis suis nunquam sciunt parcere, ut possint culparum judicem placa- tum invenire. Et vere eum postmodum invenire sal- vatorem credunt, quem districte modo judicem me- tuunt. Nam qui sibi nunc in culpa parcit, ei postmo- dum in poena non parcitur. Dicat ergo: Verumtame(??) tias meas in conspectu ejus arguam.
Verses 15, 16: 'Yet I will argue my ways in His sight, and He Himself shall be my saviour.' 48. He knows not how to spare his own faults, that God may spare him. — Since the Apostle Paul says: 'If we would judge ourselves, we should not indeed be judged' (1 Cor. 11:31), the Lord is then found a saviour, in that our sin is now reproved by our very selves out of the fear of God. Whence all the elect never know how to spare their own faults, that they may be able to find the Judge of faults appeased. And they truly believe that they will afterward find Him a saviour, whom they now strictly dread as judge. For he who now spares himself in fault, is afterward not spared in punishment. Let him say, then: 'Yet I will argue my ways in His sight.'

But let him add what benefit follows from this subtle reasoning: 'And he himself shall be my saviour.' There follows:
