V ers. 17. Quid est homo quia magnificas eum? e aut quid apponis erga eum cor tuum? 47. Sancti suam vilitatem, ac Dei munera et judicia semper considerant. Hominem Deus magnificat, quia largitate rationis ditat, infusione gratiae visitat, honore collatae virtutis exaltat. Cumque per semetip- sum nihil sit, esse tamen eum cognitionis suae parti- cipem, benignitatis munere concedit. Sed erga eum- dem magnificatum hominem cor suum Dominus apponit, quia post dona judicium exerit, merita sub- tiliter pensat, vitae pondera vehementer examinat, et tanto ab eo post districtius poenas exigit, quanto hunc impenso munere largius praevenit.
第十七節。「人算甚麼，你竟看他為大？你為何把你的心放在他身上？」四十七、聖徒常思念自己的卑微，以及神的恩賜與審判。神看人為大，因為祂以理性的浩大豐富他，以恩典的澆灌眷顧他，以所賜之德的尊榮高舉他。人本身雖算不得甚麼，然而神藉其慈愛的恩賜，容他得以有分於祂自己的知識。但主向那同一被高舉的人放下祂的心，因為在祂的恩賜之後施行審判，精細地衡量功過，猛烈地稱量生命的分量，並在事後愈嚴厲地向他索取刑罰，正如祂先前愈豐厚地以厚賜臨到他。
Verse 17. 'What is man, that thou magnifiest him? or why dost thou set thy heart toward him?' 47. The saints ever consider their own vileness, and God's gifts and judgments. God magnifies man, because He enriches him with the largeness of reason, visits him with the infusion of grace, exalts him with the honour of conferred virtue. And though through himself he be nothing, yet that he should be a partaker of His own knowledge He grants by the gift of His benignity. But toward that same magnified man the Lord sets His heart, because after His gifts He puts forth judgment, subtly weighs merits, vehemently examines the weights of the life, and exacts penalties from him afterward the more strictly, the more largely He prevented him with lavished gift.

Vir igitur sanctus immensitatem supernae majestatis aspicial, at- que ad infirmitatem propriam considerationis oculum reducat. Videat quia caro capere non valet hoc quod a de semetipsa Veritas per spiritum docet. Videat quia etiam sublevatus hominis spiritus judicium tolerare non sufficit quod Deus sub examine districtae retri- butionis intendit, et dicat: Quid esi homo, quia ma- gnificas eum? aut quid apponis erga eum cor tuum? Ac si aperte exclamet, dicens: Magnificatur homo spiritali munere, sed tamen caro est;
所以讓這聖潔之人思念至上威嚴的無量，並把思念之眼帶回自己的軟弱。讓他看見，肉體不能領受真理藉聖靈所教導關於自身的事。讓他看見，連被高舉的人之靈也不足以承受神在嚴厲報應之察驗下所要施行的審判，就讓他說：「人算甚麼，你竟看他為大？你為何把你的心放在他身上？」彷彿他明明地呼喊說：人以屬靈的恩賜被看為大，然而他仍是肉體；
Let the holy man therefore behold the immensity of the supernal majesty, and bring back the eye of consideration to his own infirmity. Let him see that the flesh is not able to grasp that which the Truth teaches concerning itself through the spirit. Let him see that even the uplifted spirit of man does not suffice to endure the judgment which God intends under the examination of strict retribution, and let him say: 'What is man, that thou magnifiest him? or why dost thou set thy heart toward him?' As if he plainly exclaimed, saying: Man is magnified with a spiritual gift, yet nevertheless he is flesh;

et vias ejus post munera districte consideras, sed tamen si remota pietate judicetur, pondus quod de tua b subtilitate imminet, ferre nec sublevatus ad justitiam spiritus valet, quia etsi hunc ultra se tua dona dilatant, ad inquisitionem tamen tui districti examinis sua infir- mitas angustat. Unde et adhuc apte subjungitur:
你在你的恩賜之後嚴厲地察看他的道路，然而若把憐憫挪去而審判他，那從你精微而懸在他身上的重擔，連被高舉至公義的靈也擔不起，因為你的恩賜雖使他超乎自己而擴張，然而在你嚴審的查究之下，他的軟弱卻被困窘。故此又恰當地補充說：
and thou considerest his ways strictly after thy gifts, yet nevertheless if he be judged with piety removed, the weight which hangs over him from thy subtlety, not even the spirit uplifted to righteousness is able to bear, because although thy gifts dilate him beyond himself, yet his infirmity is straitened at the inquisition of thy strict examination. Whence also it is aptly subjoined:
