5. Sancti bonorum temporalium onus aut largiendo partiuntur, aut contemnendo totum deponunt. —Sancti quippe viri in hujus peregiinalionis aerumna, quoniarn eam quam appetunt adhuc creatoris sui speciem contemplari minime sinuntur, omnem præsentis vitæ copiam inopiam deputant, quia videlicet nil extra Deum sufficit menti quae veraciter Deum quaerit; et plerumque eis ipsa sua abundantia fit vehementer onerosa, quia hoc ipsum graviter tolerant, quod festinantes ad patriam in itinere multa portant. Unde fit ut haec cum indigenlihus proximis devote partiantur, quatenus dum sumit iste quod non habet, deponat ille quod amplius habebat;
5. Holy men either share the burden of temporal goods by giving, or by despising lay the whole down. For holy men, in the hardship of this pilgrimage—since they are not yet permitted to contemplate that form of their Creator which they long for—count all the abundance of the present life as poverty; because indeed nothing apart from God suffices for a mind that truly seeks God. And very often that same abundance of theirs becomes vehemently burdensome to them, because they bear it grievously that, hastening to their fatherland, they carry much on the road. Whence it comes to pass that they devoutly share these things with their needy neighbors, so that while this man takes what he has not, that man lays down what he had too much of;
五、聖人對屬世之善，或藉施捨分擔其重擔，或藉輕看全然放下。因為聖人在此客旅的艱苦中—既尚未蒙允許得見他們所渴慕之創造者的形像—便把今生一切的豐富都當作貧窮；因為對真心尋求神的心而言，除神以外一無所足。而他們那豐富往往變得極其沉重，因為他們難以忍受：在奔向天家的路上竟攜帶許多。於是他們便虔誠地把這些與貧乏的鄰舍分享，使這人取得他所無的，那人放下他多餘的；

nec conviator vacuus ambulet, nec eum quem retardare in via poterat nirnium onus gravet. Electi ergo de multa abundantia minime 699 lætantur, quam videlicet pro amore coelestis patrimonii aut largiendo dispergunt, aut despiciendo deserunt. Sequitur:
so that neither may the fellow-traveler walk empty, nor may too great a load weigh down him whom it could delay on the way. The elect therefore by no means rejoice over much abundance, which indeed, for the love of the heavenly patrimony, they either scatter by giving, or forsake by despising. There follows:
