V ers. 4. — Prius vos ostendens fabricatores men- dacii, et cultores perversorum dogmatum. 34. Haeretici fabricatores mendacii. — Quibus vide- licet verbis aperte ostenditur quod amici ejus quasi ex haereticorum specie sancti viri judiciis adversan- tur. Liquet enim quia catholicorum figuram non te- neant qui cultores perversorum dogmatum vocantur. Qua in re hoc quoque oportet intendi quod menda- cii fabricatores dicuntur. Sicut enim aedificium lapi- dibus, ita mendacium sermonibus fabricatur. Ubi enim non dolosa locutio, sed sensus veritatis est, quasi munita moles non ex fabrica, sed ex natura consurgit. Sequitur:
Verse 4: 'Showing first that you are forgers of a lie, and worshippers of perverse teachings.' 34. Heretics are forgers of a lie. — By which words indeed it is plainly shown that his friends, as it were under the guise of heretics, oppose themselves to the judgements of the holy man. For it is clear that they hold not the figure of catholics who are called worshippers of perverse teachings. In which matter this too must be observed, that they are called forgers of a lie. For just as a building is fabricated of stones, so a lie is fabricated of words. For where there is not deceitful speech but the sense of truth, there, as it were, a fortified mass rises up not from fabrication but from nature. There follows:
