75. Dei erga incipientes indulgentia. — Unusquisque qui Deum sequitur, in ipso suo exordio ut locusta suscitatur, qui i etsi in quibusdam actionibus locustarum more flexis poplitibus terræ inhaeret, in quibusdam tamen expansis alis sese in aera suspendii. Conversionum quippe initia, bonis moribus malisque permista sunt, dum et nova jam per intentionem agitur, et vetus adhuc vita ej usu retinetur. Tanto autem minus s permistis interim malis lædimur, quanto contra illa quotidie sine cessatione pugnamus. Nec suos nos jam culpa vindicat, cujus pravo usui h nostra sollicite mens resulta:. Minus itaque nobis inchoantibus terrena opera officiunt, quia in nobis diutius demorari prohibentur.
75. God's indulgence toward beginners. — Everyone who follows God, in his very beginning is raised up like a locust, who, though in certain actions, after the manner of locusts, with bent knees he clings to the earth, yet in certain others, with wings outspread, suspends himself in the air. For the beginnings of conversions are mingled with good morals and bad, while both the new life is now enacted through intention, and the old life is still retained by habit. But we are so much the less harmed by the evils meanwhile mingled in, the more we fight against them daily without ceasing. Nor does guilt claim us as its own any longer, against whose wicked practice our mind carefully struggles. Less therefore do earthly works hinder us who are beginning, because they are forbidden to tarry longer within us.
七十五、神對初信者的寬容。——每一個跟隨神的人，在他起初正是像蝗蟲一樣被興起，牠雖然在某些行動中照蝗蟲的樣式屈膝貼地，在另一些行動中卻展開翅膀把自己懸在空中。因為悔改的開端乃是善惡品行相摻雜的，因為新生活如今藉心志被實行，舊生活卻仍藉習慣被保留。但我們被那同時摻雜之惡所傷害的愈少，就是我們愈是每日不住地與之爭戰。罪也不再認我們為牠自己的，就是我們的心殷勤與其邪惡的作為相爭。所以塵世的行為愈少攔阻我們這些初起步的人，因為它們被禁止在我們裡面停留更久。

Proinde quoniam in ipso nostræ conversionis initio infirma quaedam pie de nobis Dominus tolerat, ut nos quatidoque ad cœlestia ex perfectione perdurat, quasi locustas nos in exordio suscitat, quia etsi in volatu virtutis sublevat, non tamen de terreni operis casu desperat. Sequitur:
Accordingly, since in the very beginning of our conversion the Lord devoutly bears with certain infirmities in us, that He may at length bring us to heavenly things out of perfection, He raises us up as it were as locusts in our outset, because though He lifts us up in the flight of virtue, He nevertheless does not despair over the fall of earthly work. There follows:
