940:1
28. Ecclesiæ testimonium reddere debemus bene vivendo. — Dum beatificari se ab audientibus, sibique testimonium reddi a videntibus fatetur beatus Job, qualis in sermone, qualis in opere fuerit, ostenditur.
28. We ought to render testimony to the Church by living well. — When blessed Job confesses that he was called blessed by those who heard him, and that testimony was rendered to him by those who saw him, it is shown what manner of man he was in speech and what in work. For neither is he yet perfect in work whom the perversity of the tongue still contradicts, nor is he praiseworthy in speech who does not show forth in work what he speaks. Therefore, that blessed Job, pressed by the reproaches of his friends, may declare that he possessed both, he makes manifest that he was an object of veneration both to those who heard and to those who saw. And if we refer this to the voice of Holy Church, that man calls her words blessed who fulfils in work the things he has heard.
940:2
ine ei testimonium reddit, qui exemplis e vitæ illi bene vivendo respondet. Sanctam etenim Ecclesiam ille veracitcr videt, cujus testatur vita quia vidcl.
He renders testimony to her who answers her by living well through the examples of his life. For that man truly beholds Holy Church whose life testifies that he beholds. For to this end is the rectitude of the good within her discerned, that whosoever behold her may be corrected from their own depravities. Not yet, therefore, does he behold the good within Holy Church who has not been amended from his evils. But from what source testimony is rendered to her is shown when he adds:
