God alone is the food of our mind. — That is: from those angelic choirs she directs the eye of her mind to contemplate the glory of the supernal majesty, for which, so long as it is not seen, she still hungers, and by which, when at length it is seen, she is satisfied. For it is written: 'Because his soul hath laboured, he shall see and be satisfied' (Isaiah 53:11). And again: 'Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled' (Matthew 5:6).
